Biography

Associate Professor Dr Roliana Ibrahim is the Director of Applied Computing at the School of Computing, formerly known as Faculty of Computing. Previously she was the Head of Information Systems Department for three consecutive years at the Faculty. She received her PhD in the field of Systems Science from Loughborough University, MSc Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, BSc (Honours) Computer Studies from Liverpool John Moores University. Being as a faculty member since 1999,  she was previously a Coordinator of BSc Computer Science (Bioinformatics) Program and Master of Information Technology (IT Management).

She is one the Editorial Board members of Journal of Information Systems Research and Innovation (JISRI) and the Guest Chief Editor of Special Issue on Science and Technology, Jurnal Teknologi Vol  70, No. 5. She used to serve as the Organizing Committee member of 5th Asian Conference in Intelligent Information and Database Systems (ACIIDS 2013), the Program Committee member of 8th, 7th and 5th Malaysia Software Engineering Conference (MySEC’14, MySEC’13, MySEC’11), the 1st,  2nd and 3rd International Conference on Research and Innovation in Information Systems (ICRIIS’09, ICRIIS’11, ICRIIS13). Most of the publications from the conferences are published by IEEE and are indexed in SCOPUS.

She is also a Malaysian Section IEEE Member since 2013, as well as IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and  IEEE Communication Society Members. In addition, she is one of Oracle  Certified Associate and hold certificates as Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) in ASP.NET Developer 3.5 and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) in SQL Server 2008, Database Development.

She has been teaching various Information Systems and Database subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has involved in the design and implementation of curriculum under the Faculty of Computing such as Bachelor of Computer Science (Bioinformatics), Bachelor of Computer Science (Database Systems), Master Information Technology (IT-Management) and now she is developing a new work-based learning curriculum 2u2i (2 years in the university and 2 years learning together with the Faculty of Computing industry partners. She has also participated in academic programme accreditation under Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), a national body for the accreditation of academic programs.

She is an active researcher with a number of past and current projects. Her current research interests are the adoption of system thinking methodologies and ontology as innovative solutions for complex systems integration and development, sentiment analysis and opinion mining and predictive modelling of strategic big data for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) delivery.  Her works has been supported by numerous research grants and she has published her research findings in numerous ISI and SCOPUS indexed journals, lecture notes and indexed proceedings.
