T112: Curriculum Design, Management & Development

This workshop will introduce the basics of Curriculum Design, Management and Development
(CDMD) in higher education context. It will cover five units of thoughtfully selected contents.
The five units are: (i) Unit 1: Meaning of Curriculum, (ii) Unit 2: Foundations of Curriculum, (iii)
Unit 3: Models of Curriculum Development, (iv) Unit 4: Principles of Curriculum Design, (v) Unit
5: Curriculum in Malaysian Higher Education.
Unit 1 will expand and deepen participants’ understanding of the meaning of the term
‘curriculum’; Unit 2 will expose them to the foundations on which a curriculum stands; Unit 3 will
provide them with insights into the three major models of curriculum development; Unit 4 will
guide them on the principles used in designing curriculum; Unit 5 will present the curriculum
design approach adopted by the Malaysian Higher Education system. All the units are therefore
interwoven with the primary aim of enabling the participants to apply the knowledge and skills
learnt in the area of CDMD to design learning experiences in their own discipline.
The two-day workshop will adopt a learner-centred, reflective approach to teaching and learning
involving the use of group discussions, collaborative learning, and participant-directed learning.
At the of the workshop, participants should be able to
1. Apply the various meanings of curriculum in explaining various curriculum approaches.
2. Analyse a curriculum from the perspective of its foundations.
3. Compare and contrast various models of curriculum development
4. Apply the principles of curriculum development to design a curriculum
5. Explain the curriculum design approach adopted by the Malaysian Higher Education
system.
