Expertise

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).  I worked on the development and control of electron-spin and superconducting qubits and quantum experiments conducted at millikelvin temperatures; and my unique experience and knowledge makes me as the sole expert in Malaysia on superconducting and electron spin quantum computers.

I began working on electron-spin quantum computers in 2009 at the The University of Osaka (UOsaka), where I earned my PhD in 2013. I now serve as a Specially Appointed Associate Professor at the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology (QIQB), UOsaka.

In 2018, I begun working with Prof. Rainer Dumke on superconducting quantum computers at Singapore’s Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. This work later formed the foundation of AQSolotl Pte. Ltd., which I co-founded and now serves as Chief Technology Officer.

In 2025, I was selected by UNESCO as one of the Quantum 100 for the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ2025).

Dr Yap serves as the Program Director for the first ever ASEAN Quantum Summit 2025, together with MyQI members.
