Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through its U-BAN Research Group at the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence, is strengthening collaboration with PPK Technology Sdn. Bhd. to drive innovation in smart traffic light systems. A recent site visit to PPK Technology’s headquarters in Melaka opened new opportunities for joint research and knowledge sharing in intelligent transportation systems.
PPK Technology, a pioneer in Malaysia’s traffic management industry since 1985, has developed advanced solutions ranging from modular signal heads and controllers to wireless sensing devices and integrated monitoring dashboards. These innovations form the backbone of Malaysia’s traffic infrastructure, making the company an ideal partner for research into adaptive and AI-powered traffic control.
During the engagement, UTM researchers and PPK’s technical team discussed potential projects that would combine academic expertise with industrial application, such as data-driven traffic flow optimization, integration of IoT sensors, and pilot deployments of AI-based adaptive signal control. The collaboration also envisions student involvement through postgraduate research, internships, and capacity-building activities.
By leveraging PPK’s industry experience and UTM’s research strengths, this partnership is expected to contribute significantly to Malaysia’s smart city agenda, improve traffic efficiency, and support sustainable urban mobility for the future.
