Phase 1: Preliminary Study

During the preliminary study she use this instrument to collect the attendance of the students. Only 3 respondent involve in this study.  The outcomes of this phase enable the understanding of the HI students learning behaviour towards the Quranic education. Figure 1 is the instruments used.

The Fakih method was introduced and implemented in Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah Pendidikan Khas (KSSRPK) and widely used to teach the deaf student to learn the Quran. However, according to previous study, there are still a weaknesses of the current method where it cause the student become confusing when using the sign language with the complex numbering system while reading the Quran. Thus it affects the motivational level of the student to learn the Quran.

The preliminary study has been carried out to find out the student learning behaviour and the problem that most of the students face towards Al-Quran learning process by conducting an interview with five teachers which teach the deaf student.  The result from the interview has supported the weakness of Fakih method and there is another problem that arises such as Fakih method (Figure 2) requires a lot of time to learn, the student is confusing when comes to the line and the student’s memory capability to memorizing. Therefore, a method called Tahfiz Akhyar is used by 60% of the teachers to teach the student to remember the Al-Quran (Hafaz).

By using Tahfiz Akhyar method, a surah is selected and the student will arrange the colourful pieces of verses according to numbers by looking the Quran. To test the student memorization, the verses will be cut into pieces of kalimah and student needs to arrange it orderly according to the number. The teacher emphasizes on the hafazan techniq. But from the preliminary result, 100% of the teacher said that the student is wrongly arranged the verses correctly when using the Tahfiz Akhyar method (Figure 3).
