CONGRATULATIONS TO FAIRUN IN EMBARKING ON A NEW CHAPTER AS ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (GIS) AT IIUM
I’m delighted to share and extend my heartfelt congratulations to my PhD student, Dr. Fairun, on her new role as an Assistant Professor (GIS) at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
She received her PhD on 30th November 2023 and with her achievements in research, she secured a permanent position in that university.
Wishing Fairun all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter in her career!
EXCELLENCE IN ACTION – NEVIL SHINES WITH A COMMENDABLE GRADE IN HIS VIVA VOCE!
Thrilled to share the incredible achievement of my MPhil student from Sri Lanka, Nevil! He absolutely shone in his viva voce, securing a commendable grade with just one month of corrections.
In a concise one-hour session, including Q&A, he showcased his expertise impressively.
Nevil successfully completed his MPhil research under my supervision in just 1.5 years. His accomplishments include publishing three (3) journals (Q1 and Q3), presenting at four (4) Scopus international conferences, securing three (3) intellectual properties, and having three (3) additional journals under review. In the beginning, Nevil thought achieving all this was impossible, but I continually assured him that it was possible.
Now, he’s rightfully recommended for a merit by the examiners for his study! Huge congratulations, Nevil!
Treat my hardworking research lab postgraduate students and postdoctoral staff to a taste of the king of fruits, the Durian, today!
To my colleagues who do not know what is Durian, it is a tropical fruit known for its distinctive odor, often described as strong and pungent, which some people find unpleasant. However, its custard-like flesh is highly prized for its rich, creamy texture and unique flavor. It’s often referred to as the “king of fruits” due to its revered status in many Southeast Asian countries. Give it a try!
Taking time to acknowledge the team’s dedication and efforts in pushing the boundaries of our research is crucial. Excited for a productive session and indulging in delicious durians together!
GLOBAL COLLABORATION IN RESEARCH – WELCOMING ANOTHER POSTDOC FROM KING FAHD UNIVERSITY TO OUR SCIENTIFIC JOURNEY
Excited to share that my second postdoctoral staff application has been approved! Thrilled to be supervising exceptional talent from King Fahd University in Saudi Arabia, but he is originally from Cairo, Egypt. Looking forward to impactful collaboration and research advancements.
Teaching Experience at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
A rewarding experience for me. The opportunity to be as a supervisor for two undergraduate students at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2017. My two students, Lars Hinge and Jonathan Gundorph, are hardworking and passionate towards academic topics.
Aside from teaching and conducting research at DTU, student supervision is one of the other tasks as a member of DTU’s staff.
The student research projects are about Photogrammetry Science, and the use of Drone Technology to gather spatial data.
In terms of research experiments, new experiences gained from drone flights (extremely cold temperatures, strong winds in this Scandinavian country, seasonal climate), student attitudes toward interest in science, and many more. An experience you can’t buy but you need to gain from it.
Last year, we successfully published their work in a Scopus indexed publication. Good luck in your future endeavours Lars and Jonathan.
Thrilled to announce I’ve been awarded a Professional Development Research University grant by UTM! Grateful for this opportunity and excited to contribute to cutting-edge research. Huge thanks to UTM for the trust and support. Ready for the next chapter! #ResearchGrant #UTMOpportunity #Gratitude
Flavors of Success – A BBQ Night with the Dream Team
Had an amazing BBQ night with my wonderful postdoctoral, PhD, and MPhil students at Sireh Park, right by the lake. We enjoyed delicious BBQ and skewers, sipped on chai from Usman, savored the fantastic sauce from Husna, indulged in viral drinks by Farah, and were treated to expert grilling by Nevil and Tariq.
It was also our first research lab outdoor activity with our newly registered MPhil student, Wiliyan Ricky Abdullah. Exciting times ahead!
And a warm welcome to Dr. Khaled Almansi as well, our new postdoctoral staff from Palestine, who just arrived today and BBQ night is his first activity with us. Looking forward to a couple of years of research experiments in 3D City Modelling and GIS with him.
I did not know that my students are talented in F&B business as well. Thank you for making this night fantastic #TeamWork #ResearchNight #BBQFun
Today, we swapped lab coats for casual wear and enjoyed a fantastic hi-tea courtesy of our very own PhD student, Usman! Great food, amazing chai, and even better company – what more could you ask for on a Friday evening?
Kudos to Usman for being the perfect host and bringing our lab family together outside of work. These moments make research life sweeter! #LabLife #HiTeaFun #FridayVibes
I’m delighted to share that Sarah Syafiqah Nordin, my talented student, has just completed her thesis and graduated with flying colors!
Sarah’s research is a game-changer – the first in 26 years of GIS in UTM, to combine digital and physical GIS into a single 3D platform.
Let’s celebrate Sarah’s remarkable achievement and her promising future in the field of Geographic Information Science! #GIS #Thesis #Graduation #Innovation
Our currently interning students with our research group, had the honor of presenting their progress to their internship coordinator/lecturer. Delighted to report that the coordinator’s feedback was nothing short of glowing, highlighting the remarkable work our interns are contributing.
These moments truly underscore the immense potential and promising futures our students possess. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to support and empower the next generation of aspiring researchers! #InternshipSuccess #FutureLeaders #ResearchExcellence
