BREAKING BOUNDARIES: A DEEP DIVE INTO 3D CITY MODELLING TOPOLOGY RULES IN GIS APPLICATIONS

BREAKING BOUNDARIES: A DEEP DIVE INTO 3D CITY MODELLING TOPOLOGY RULES IN GIS APPLICATIONS

Thrilled to share insights from our groundbreaking research: “Topology Models and Rules: A 3D Spatial Database Approach”. Our study delves into the intricate world of topological information, crucial for complex spatial analysis, particularly in describing the containment, adjacency, and connectivity of objects within a 3D space.

Traditionally, spatial databases have leaned on 2D topology mechanisms, often falling short in handling the intricacies of 3D topology functions. Our experiments, conducted within ArcGIS and Oracle spatial database, unveil the limitations of existing topology rules and models. Notably, while 2D geodatabase topology rules in ArcGIS effectively determine relationships between 2D multi-surfaces, they struggle with 3D objects.

Enter the 36-Intersection Model (36IM), the hero of our study. This innovative model, describing intersections from 0D to 3D, introduces a paradigm shift in handling topological relationships within Oracle. Our experiments showcase how 36IM topology rules bridge the gap, providing insights into dimensions of intersections and supporting the maintenance of topological information without breaking down 3D objects.

Explore our full paper for a comprehensive understanding of how 3D topology rules reshape the landscape of spatial data management. Elevate your knowledge and stay ahead in the evolving realm of GIS and 3D spatial databases!

UNLOCKING URBAN SPACES: A 3D SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF TEMPORAL MAINTENANCE IN MULTI-USE HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

UNLOCKING URBAN SPACES: A 3D SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF TEMPORAL MAINTENANCE IN MULTI-USE HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS

Exciting news to share! Kudos to my PhD students, Usman and Syahiirah, for the publication of their joint paper in the Geomatics and Environmental Engineering journal – a Scopus Q3 indexed publication. Our paper, titled “3D Spatial Analysis of Temporal Maintenance for Multi-use High-rise Buildings: Case Study,” delves into the complexities of managing and maintaining spaces in high-rise buildings amidst urbanization.

Summary: The study focuses on implementing temporal maintenance management for high-rise building parcels within a 3D spatial database. It involves 3D space segmentation to analyze ownership and usage, spatial queries for temporal maintenance, and 3D spatial relationships to identify adjacent parcels affected by maintenance. This innovative approach ensures accurate representation and identification of spaces crucial for enhancing the quality of life in multi-use high-rise buildings.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE AT DANMARKS TEKNISKE UNIVERSITET (DTU)

Teaching Experience at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

A rewarding experience for me. The opportunity to be as a supervisor for two undergraduate students at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2017. My two students, Lars Hinge and Jonathan Gundorph, are hardworking and passionate towards academic topics.

Aside from teaching and conducting research at DTU, student supervision is one of the other tasks as a member of DTU’s staff.

The student research projects are about Photogrammetry Science, and the use of Drone Technology to gather spatial data.

In terms of research experiments, new experiences gained from drone flights (extremely cold temperatures, strong winds in this Scandinavian country, seasonal climate), student attitudes toward interest in science, and many more. An experience you can’t buy but you need to gain from it.

Last year, we successfully published their work in a Scopus indexed publication. Good luck in your future endeavours Lars and Jonathan.

BIG DATA SPATIAL MODELS FOR TEMPORAL GRAPH DATABASES SPATIAL QUERIES

BIG DATA SPATIAL MODELS FOR TEMPORAL GRAPH DATABASES SPATIAL QUERIES

Exciting news! Our recent IEEE publication, “Modelling Reoccurrence of Events in an Event-Based Graph Database for Asset Management,” explores efficient ways to handle recurring maintenance events in asset management.

We introduce three temporal graph data models, assessing their performance on synthetic datasets. The findings highlight the second model’s efficiency with smaller datasets and the third model’s prowess with big data scenarios.

These models go beyond asset management, providing a foundation for event-based data management using graph databases. Dive into the full paper for insights into optimizing asset maintenance and more!
