THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF SMART CITY APPLICATIONS 2022

THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF SMART CITY APPLICATIONS 2022

We successfully published six (6) research papers at the International Conference of Smart City Applications 2022, which took place in Morocco. I want to congratulate all the research students in our lab who have worked so diligently on their research that it is now their works being acknowledged and accepted at international level. Your hard work paid off.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES

Regarding our study findings, we have successfully acquired new Intellectual Properties (IP) that have been granted Copyright status. This intellectual property focuses on the 3D voxelization method for developing wind flow models.

Congratulations to Nurfairunnajiha Ridzuan. The student’s efforts have been acknowledged with accomplishment. It is her first opportunity to work with intellectual property. I intend to educate my students on the application procedures for intellectual property.

We certainly hope that our research lab will generate a more significant number of IPs.

YEAR END 2022 RESEARCH MEETING

YEAR END 2022 RESEARCH MEETING

This meeting was postponed from November to December. This is because our research lab is undergoing a major renovation and expansion to meet the needs of new students.

This meeting we introduced 3 new research members namely Syafiq, Husna and Farah. Each showed good progress despite having just started their studies in less than two months.

Hopefully next year more and more interesting research can be produced from our lab. See you next year (IA)!

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

This is the 11th journal publication in 2022. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), a Malaysia Smart Cities Stakeholders Adoption Model (MSCSA) was employed as a case study in this research. In-depth interviews with specialists from smart city development agencies were conducted using a mixed-methods research approach. These assessments provide city officials with a mechanism for measuring citizen interest in smart city services and a road map for establishing an efficient smart city plan.

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING (WCPI ALGORITHM)

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

One of our lab works has been successfully accepted in an international journal, the Waste Management & Research journal. We introduce a novel spatial clustering technique, called the Within Cluster Pattern Identification (WCPI) algorithm, in spatially identifying litter patterns. It is proven as the first spatial technique introduced and is supported by more than 10,000 onsite spatial data collection conducted in this research. This research is funded by our UTM International Industrial Incentive Research Grant.

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

Congratulations to both of my final year Bachelor Degree of Science Geoinformatics students. Finally, they successfully completed their dissertation and defended it during the viva session.

They admitted their previous “wrong moves” caused delays in completing their respective final year projects. I understand, it is a learning process. What is most important is that the experience of making mistakes, is the most valuable.

Congratulations Azbin Fahmi and Natashya! I knew from the start that you two could make it to the finish line.

NEW GROUP MEMBER

NEW GROUP MEMBER

Warm welcome to Mr. Nevil Wickramathilaka to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is a lecturer from the Department of Spatial Sciences, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. He will be doing his MPhil study in UTM under my supervision. We will be working together in creating an improvisation equation for green areas via 3D city modelling. Welcome to the group!

UTM METAVERSE

UTM METAVERSE

Throwback [24 May 2022] – First initial meeting call for UTM Metaverse project. It is a brainstorming session in bringing UTM to a new niche area which is developing metaverse for UTM.

I was able to give an idea on how to incorporate metaverse in the university. Among the advantages of creating a metaverse in the university are; students can socialize virtually, this includes going to lectures, sports, tadarus, and so on. Its a new concept (future new norm), which can be tested in the university.
