JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING (WCPI ALGORITHM)

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

One of our lab works has been successfully accepted in an international journal, the Waste Management & Research journal. We introduce a novel spatial clustering technique, called the Within Cluster Pattern Identification (WCPI) algorithm, in spatially identifying litter patterns. It is proven as the first spatial technique introduced and is supported by more than 10,000 onsite spatial data collection conducted in this research. This research is funded by our UTM International Industrial Incentive Research Grant.

Article: Within Cluster Pattern Identification: A New Approach for Optimizing Recycle Point Distribution to Support Policy Implementation on Waste Management in Malaysia.

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

Congratulations to both of my final year Bachelor Degree of Science Geoinformatics students. Finally, they successfully completed their dissertation and defended it during the viva session.

They admitted their previous “wrong moves” caused delays in completing their respective final year projects. I understand, it is a learning process. What is most important is that the experience of making mistakes, is the most valuable.

Congratulations Azbin Fahmi and Natashya! I knew from the start that you two could make it to the finish line.

UTM METAVERSE

UTM METAVERSE

Throwback [24 May 2022] – First initial meeting call for UTM Metaverse project. It is a brainstorming session in bringing UTM to a new niche area which is developing metaverse for UTM.

I was able to give an idea on how to incorporate metaverse in the university. Among the advantages of creating a metaverse in the university are; students can socialize virtually, this includes going to lectures, sports, tadarus, and so on. Its a new concept (future new norm), which can be tested in the university.

THE SCA 2022 INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE

THE SCA 2022 INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE

As a member of the international technical program committees, I would like to extend an invitation to any researchers interested in submitting their research papers to the 7th Smart City Applications International Conference, held in Castelo Branco, Portugal, from October 18-21, 2022. The 7th International Conference on Smart City Applications is a multidisciplinary forum co-organized by the IPCB – Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco in partnership with the Mediterranean Association of Sciences and Sustainable Development (Medi-ADD). Among the related topics are:

  • 3D City Modeling and Visualization
  • Location-Based Services
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Remote Sensing
  • Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • GeoInformation for Mobile
  • Collective Sensing and Geo-spatial Big Data
  • Laser Scanning
  • Processing of Spatial Imagery
  • Geo AI
  • Urban Informatics
  • Geospatial Cloud Computing
  • Wireless and Mobile GIS

The purpose of the event is to bring together research scientists and engineers to debate and exchange experimental and theoretical results, creative designs, case studies, and ideas that create new trends in the field of smart cities. You are welcome to check out the website conference at https://medi-ast.org/SCA22/index.html. The paper submission link is at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=sca22.

REPRESENTING 3D TOPOLOGICAL ADJACENCIES BETWEEN VOLUMES USING A 36-INTERSECTION MODEL

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

Our recent journal publication in Geomatics and Environmental Engineering Vol. 16 No. 2 (2022).

This article created a new topological intersection model called the 36-Intersection Model for 0 dimension up to 3 dimensional spaces. Feel free to read the article below with tons of new improved mathematical equations (if you don’t mind):

NEW PATENT FILING REGISTERED FOR 2022

NEW PATENT FILING REGISTERED FOR 2022

I am thankful to have successfully filed a patent at the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). My invention is entitled “A 3D Topological Based Cadastral Management System”.

The topology here is not topological error checking for geometric errors, as most researchers commonly understood. On the other hand, it’s the central topology in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) discipline. Whenever spatial entities exist, they are linked together by distinct mathematical formulas based on their unique interactions.

INTERNSHIP STUDENTS – WEEK LAST

INTERNSHIP STUDENTS – WEEK LAST

Unexpectedly, for the first time ever, our internship students planned for a meal in the lab. Soon after our short research discussion, we enjoyed our meal and cakes. It goes on with good laugh and jokes together with our Research Officer and postgraduate students.

Upon completion of the internship, the students have remaining 2 weeks of study breaks before the new semester begins. Since they are doing well in their tasks, 3D GIS Research Lab is offering them an opportunity to continue their research tasks after completing their internship.

They accepted it since they like to learn new stuffs in the lab. I would say that the lab will be seeing them again for another two weeks. Happy researcher happy minds!

World Health Organization (WHO) Request

I am astounded when I got an email from the World Health Organization or WHO. They ask me to review their article about COVID-19 pandemic for WHO newsletter.

I’m really surprised because I’m not a medical doctor who specialises in this field of pandemics. But after looking at the article, my opinion is needed from the aspect of spatial/space sciences included in the article.

It’s an honour for me to accept this invitation. Given the relatively short review duration, I do understand the urgency for it and will try to give my scientific review and opinion to the best of my knowledge and experience.

From my initial point of view, the article have an impact in terms of analyzing COVID-19 spreading among humans in confined spaces.

Let us all fight this COVID-19 pandemic together!

-Uznir Ujang (Malaysia)
