JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

This is our first journal publication of this year. The concept of the city with an infrastructure of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) embraces several definitions depending on the meanings of the word “smart” which include: intelligent city, smart city, knowledge city, ubiquitous city, sustainable city, and digital city. Many definitions of the city exist, but this study explores which one has been universally acknowledged. From the literature analysis, it emerges that the term smart city is the most used in the articles to show the smartness of a city. This paper shares exploration of the research from the seven main website digital databases and journals focusing on the smart city from January 2015 to February 2020 to: (a) Time research, to examine the causes of the smart city phenomenon and other concept literature in the last five years; (b) Review of words, to see how and where the smart city specification and relation of different definitions are implemented; (c) Geographical research to consider where smart cities’ greatest concentrations are in the world and determine if Malaysians are interacting with the smart city; and (d) How many papers are published in all of Malaysia from 2015 to 2020 about smart cities. Three steps are followed to accomplish the aim of this study: (1) The analysis which covered a systematic literature review search strategy to gather a representative sub-set of papers on the smart city and other definitions utilizing GoogleScholar, Elsevier, Scopus, ScienceDirect, IEEEXplore, WebofScience, and Springer between January 2015- February 2020; (2) The formation of a bibliometric map based on the bibliometric evaluation using the mapping technique VOSviewer to visualize differences; (3) VOSviewer application program to build initial clusters. The bibliometric analytical findings targeted the word harmony.

MOCK PROPOSAL DEFENSE

Spending my 3 hours time with final-year BSc Geoinformatics students under my supervision. This mock proposal is not obligated; rather, it is intended to teach students the fundamentals of delivering a proposal defence presentation as well as future presentations (after graduation). This is not a lecturer’s KPI; people say it only adds work. But, regardless of what others say, the important thing is that my students gain new knowledge for future use. And we had “makan-makan” at the end of the session.

8 TEACHING BLENDED LEARNING AWARD

8 TEACHING BLENDED LEARNING AWARD

This year in 2022, I manage to get 8 blended learning awards from UTM. I would like to say a thousand thanks to UTM for giving me this recognition.

This directly give enthusiasm to the staff at the university to provide the best for lectures, labs and knowledge delivery to all students studying at UTM. Many thanks UTM!

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

This is the 11th journal publication in 2022. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2), a Malaysia Smart Cities Stakeholders Adoption Model (MSCSA) was employed as a case study in this research. In-depth interviews with specialists from smart city development agencies were conducted using a mixed-methods research approach. These assessments provide city officials with a mechanism for measuring citizen interest in smart city services and a road map for establishing an efficient smart city plan.

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING (WCPI ALGORITHM)

JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING

One of our lab works has been successfully accepted in an international journal, the Waste Management & Research journal. We introduce a novel spatial clustering technique, called the Within Cluster Pattern Identification (WCPI) algorithm, in spatially identifying litter patterns. It is proven as the first spatial technique introduced and is supported by more than 10,000 onsite spatial data collection conducted in this research. This research is funded by our UTM International Industrial Incentive Research Grant.

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

FINALLY THEY DID IT!

Congratulations to both of my final year Bachelor Degree of Science Geoinformatics students. Finally, they successfully completed their dissertation and defended it during the viva session.

They admitted their previous “wrong moves” caused delays in completing their respective final year projects. I understand, it is a learning process. What is most important is that the experience of making mistakes, is the most valuable.

Congratulations Azbin Fahmi and Natashya! I knew from the start that you two could make it to the finish line.

NEW BOOK RELEASE!!!

NEW BOOK RELEASE

Title: Current Geoinformation Data Management and Challenges
Editors: Uznir Ujang & Zakri Tarmidi
ISBN: 978-983-52-1887-3

Summary:
This book highlights the current data management and challenges in Geoinformation. This book discusses the applications utilizing Geoinformation Science and Technology in solving problems encountered, including environmental management, asset management, securities management, and spatial standards. The book commences with an overview of Geoinformation’s application of data management and analytics. The section next discusses spatial data management and analysis in relation to exhibiting spatio-temporal wave patterns. It then demonstrates how spatial data modelling may be used to visualize urban air pollution. In addition, the book touches on the use of Geoinformation in asset management and the computation of development fees for local governments. Next, the use of 3D models in Geoinformation is discussed. Readable topics also include the readiness of local governments to implement spatial standards and spatial indicators for assessing the environmental sustainability of low-cost housing. The content presented in this book includes a review of case study and 3D modelling of air pollution, integrating Geoinformation with asset management, and integrating spatial analytics in assessing environmental sustainability indicators.

FACTORS THAT AFFECT SPATIAL DATA SHARING IN MALAYSIA (JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING)

FACTORS THAT AFFECT SPATIAL DATA SHARING IN MALAYSIA (JOURNAL ARTICLE SHARING)

I am sharing with you our most recent article in the ISPRS journal. The uniqueness of the research pertains to new aspects, such as the observation of new mixed methods and factors, which leads to the sharing and analysis of spatial data. The infrastructure of spatial data or geospatial data infrastructure is an initiative that intends to establish a framework for collaboration and communication among all stakeholders. Under the Malaysian concept of integrated data development, Kuala Lumpur is among the regional governments responding to this national drive for local SDI. In examining the effects of local governments on SDI, numerous and intricate factors, such as organizations, politics, power, systems, standards, funding, individual traits, and communications, were evaluated. This study determined the elements that influence geographical data-sharing practices.

This research was published in the ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. It is a Q1 journal that is indexed by ISI. Please feel free to read it at https://www.mdpi.com/2220-9964/11/8/446/pdf?version=1660189261
