Menurut Wilfrid Voynich yang memperolehi buku ini, katanya kod rahsia dihasilkan oleh Roger Bacon pada kurun ke 13 (tahun 1200) . Roger Bacon menulis tentang ilmu kimia dalam bentuk kod rahsia kerana pada zaman itu gereja sangat menentang ilmu selain ilmu agama sahaja yang dibenarkan dan akan diambil tindakan oleh para paderi
Ilmu sihir yang perlu dirahsiakan, maka ditulis dalam bentuk kod
Dihasilkan dalam bahasa asing oleh makhluk angkasa
Ditulis dalam bahasa Glossolalia lingua ignota iaitu bahasa yang tidak dikenali
Ditulis oleh Leonardo Da Vinci kerana berdasarkan ujian karbon ke atas kertas dan dakwat sebenarnya umur sekitar kurun ke 15 (tahun 1400) selari zaman Leonardo da Vinci mengenai ilmu tertentu
Ditulis oleh Wilfrid Voynich sendiri untuk dijual dalam harga tinggi, kerana :-
Wilfred Voynich mendakwa buku tersebut umur pada kurun ke 13 (tahun 1200) iaitu kod ilmu yang sangat penting dihasilkan oleh Roger Bacon pada kurun ke 13 (tahun 1200) tetapi sebenarnya ujian karbon pada kertas dan dakwat mendapati ia berumur pada kurun ke 15 (1400), 140 tahun selepas kematian Roger Bacon
Dia mendakwa memperolehi dari istana, tetapi dakwaan itu berubah-ubah dan bertukar-tukar istana
Sekarang disimpan di Yale Universiti
Dikatakan pernah dibeli oleh Maharaja Rudolf dengan nilai 600 keping siling emas (hanya dakwaan Wilfrid Voynich)
