Another Paper Published for 2025!

I’m excited to share that my latest paper, “GIS-Based Site Suitability for 5G Telecommunication Towers Enhancing Mobile Network Coverage,” has just been published in the Journal of Advanced Geospatial Science and Technology (JAGST)

This study applies GIS-based spatial multi-criteria analysis (SMCA) to identify optimal locations for 5G telecommunication towers in Kulai, Johor. With 5G coverage still limited in Malaysia, our findings show how geospatial data can be leveraged to plan and expand next-generation mobile networks more effectively — from analysing existing 4G/5G infrastructure to assessing population density, terrain, and signal coverage.

We hope this work contributes to smarter infrastructure planning and improved connectivity for underserved areas.

Discussion on Geospatial Policies

Last month I was given an opportunity to handle discussions on Geospatial policy in one of the States in Malaysia

Very interesting topics, since policies are one of my sub-niches under SDI or spatial data sharing

Some key points:
– roles and responsibilities
– principles
– guidance

There are many policies in global, regional, national, and state level.

I would love to have further discussion and research on this “boring” sub-niche of SDI in the future

First Publication of 2025!

Another publication by one of my students: “Spatial Distribution Patterns of Vehicle-Etching Cases in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.”

This paper explores how spatial statistical analysis was used to identify the distribution patterns of vehicle-etching cases within the Johor Bahru District.

The research applied Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to map out these incidents and uncover whether there were any noticeable trends or “hotspots” across the city — and the results showed that these acts of vandalism aren’t as random as they might seem.

If you’re curious about the methodology, findings, or want to collaborate on something similar, feel free to dive into the full paper or reach out.
