Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdullah received his B.Sc. (Edu) and M.Sc. (Edu) degrees in Mathematics Education from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics Education from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He has been serving at the Faculty of Education, UTM since 2006. His research areas are geometric thinking, higher order thinking skills (HOTS) in mathematics education and technology-aided teaching and learning in mathematics. To date, he has received ten research grants as a Principal Investigator including one from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), plus 20 grants as a co-investigator. He was also involved as a researcher in a collaborative IRU-MRUN research between the Malaysian Research Universities (UTM, UKM and UM) and Australian Innovative Research Universities (La Trobe University and James Cook University). From these researches, he has obtained numerous medals in various exhibitions locally and internationally. Among them are the Industrial Art and Technology Exhibition (INATEX); 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE); 1 Bronze, Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA); 1 Gold, International Invention & Innovation Exhibition (ITEX); 1 Silver, International University Carnival on e-Learning (IUCEL); 1 Gold, and EDUCATION Order of Merit medal in KOREA Invention Award Festival (KIAF2016) South Korea. Besides receiving awards for the Active Lecturer Using Blended Learning Methods almost every semesters, he was also a two-time recipient of Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang (APC) at the UTM Citra Karisma, in 2010 and 2016. Within the Faculty of Education, UTM, he teaches a number of courses related to his expertise and research. Since arriving at the Faculty of Education, he has taught more than six courses from the diploma to master’s degree levels. His goal in teaching is to share his knowledge and skills with his students, while at the same time learning from them. In a classroom, he tries to create an engaged and enjoyable environment through the application of various teaching and learning strategies and aids as stated in the New Academia Learning Innovation (NALI). Concerning supervision, he has supervised 10 undergraduate students, 40 master’s students (2 of them were full research) and 14 PhD students (6 as a main supervor and 8 as a co-supersor). To date, the number of on-going masters and PhD students is eight and seventeen respectively (main supervisor-8 & co-supervisor-9). Seven of his students had been awarded the best postgraduate student in mathematics education program for four semesters in a row, and one was awarded the Alumni Award in the 56th UTM Convocation. Writing is his passion. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdullah has written and co-authored more than 100 Scopus-indexed and 30 ISI-indexed articles in journals and proceedings. Besides that, he also produced more than 60 newspaper articles, 12 magazine articles ranging from mathematics education to travel experiences. To date, he has authored four books; Pelangi Publishing published one, two published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), and one published by Penerbit UTM Press and has also edited three books (book chapters). He is also often invited as a speaker at workshops organised throughout Malaysia. The workshops include how to write articles in indexed journals, the implementation of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in mathematics education and the use of software in the learning of mathematics. To date, he was appointed as a keynote and invited speaker related to mathematics education in four conferences both locally and abroad. From the aspect of management and administration of the faculty, he was appointed Research Manager for three years beginning in 2015 until middle of 2018. Currently, he is the deputy director of Research Management Centre (RMC) UTM. During his tenure, he was responsible for research, innovation and publication aspects at the faculty to elevate UTM especially in terms of education. He was also among those who initiated the Malaysian Journal of Higher Order Thinking Skills in Education (MJHOTS) and Contemporary Issues in Education, wherein he served as the chief editor. He was also the chief editor of the proceedings of International Conference on Higher Order Thinking Skills in Education (ICE-HOTS 2016) and International University Carnival on e-Learning (IUCEL 2016). His ambition is to become a prominent academician and researcher in the field of mathematics education not only in Malaysia but also worldwide.
