Over 45% of world population lives in a risky area afflicted by mosquito-borne diseases such as Dengue, Malaria, West Nile, and Chikun Gunya. Approximately, 225 million cases of Malaria reported in Africa in 2009 with ± 781,000 fatality, estimated 20% of deaths were children. In Malaysia, more than 25,301 cases of Dengue has been reported in 2010, and 62 deaths recorded until July same year. At IPASA, we are working together on a collaboration research with Nagoya Institute of Technology’s frontier, Professor Iwao Kenzo in order to synergize with national authorities to find the best solution tackling the issue. Not only that, the project is also intended as a contribution from government-academic industry to the world’s health, safety, and environment. For that, Professor Iwao together with his team from TAKEDA Co. Ltd. Japan has come up with a new innovation of mosquito trap for undergoing an experiment here in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
With this innovation kicked-start at UTM, the project has gathered attention from Johor State Health Department as well as Iskandar Region Development Area.
