Personal Information
Dr Siti Norafida is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Geotechnics and Transportation and currently appointed as Deputy Quality Manager, SAMM 804 – Civil Engineering Testing Unit (CETU), School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
She graduated with B Eng (Civil) (2006) and M Eng (Geotechnics)(2007) from UTM, Malaysia. She received her Phd degree entitles, Performance of Precast Bolted Tunnel Lining Through Physical and Numerical Modelling from UTM in 2017. She has been appointed as tutor of Faculty of Civil Engineering in 2006 and lecturer in 2007.
She previously was a Co-Opt Member of Tunnelling and Underground Space Technical Division (TUSTD) of Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) from 2017-2019.
She experienced teaching in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnics, Environmental Geotechnical (Master subject), Advanced Geotechnical Design and Analyses (Master subject- covers about tunnelling and instrumentation), Tunnel Engineering (Master subject) and also laboratory subject. She actively apply the 21st Century Learning and Teaching method in her classes. Recently, she just had been appointed as a Group Leader of Future Ready Education(FREE) at university level for 21st Century Teaching and Learning to enhance Cooperative Learning among educators for School of Civil Engineering.
Her research interest focuses on soil-structure interaction, soft soil, tunnel, ground improvement and any geotechnics and civil engineering field. Her biggest interest is finite element modelling in geotechnics. Her current research project is involving tunnelling in soft ground in laboratory and numerical modelling.
She has been supervising Ph.D. Master students, lead and member of international and national research grants and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), and had published in the peer-reviewed domestic and international journal articles, including the conference presentations. She also a speaker of soft ground tunnel and numerical modelling and in the same time has been a reviewer for respective ISI and SCOPUS journal; Tunnel and Underground System, Korean Civil Engineering Journal etc. Although pack with academic and engineering activities, she also contributes in society welfare activities with Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia as a member of Students Development Board, Johor to enhance muslim students to their roots by variety of activities including seminar and workshop.
In recent, she had invited as one of young Malaysian’s tunnellers to speak in IEM JURUTERA BULLETIN (click here to read more). Her article on “Segmental Tunnel Lining Design: Understanding Ground-Tunnel Interactions in Staggered Tunnel Lining” also once featured in monthly bulletin of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia, JURUTERA.
She would like to share this knowledge with engineers or student who interested. She also would like to collaborate with experts on real-data measurement for geotechnics project especially in tunnel.
