HAPPINESS AT WORK

What is Workplace Happiness?

In a fundamental sense, workplace happiness comes when:

  • We enjoy doing the tasks assigned to us
  • We feel right about the people we are working with
  • We are happy with the financial benefits we get from the job
  • We have the scope of improving our existing skills
  • We feel respected and acknowledged at work

Happiness at work is not the sum of proper investment and good returns; it is more than that. Individual factors like personality traits, level of perception, underlying psychological stressors, and emotional intelligence influence the degree to which we feel comfortable in a professional situation.

In the book, “The Happiness Advantage” author Shawn Achor stated that a company with happy employees could increase their sales by 37%, productivity by 31%, which directly contribute toward building a high-performance work environment and improves the quality of life for all people involved with the work.

PENGENALAN:

Edited Book ialah buku yang mengandungi beberapa bab yang mana setiap bab ditulis oleh penulis yang berbeza dan buku ini diselenggara oleh seorang atau beberapa orang editor penyelenggara. Edited book seharusnya mempunyai satu tema yang luas dan judul setiap bab haruslah diikat oleh tema yang sama.

(Edited Books are books that contain several chapters in which each chapter is written by different authors and are organised by one or more organising editors. An Edited Book ought to have one broad theme and the title of each chapter must be tied into the same theme)

Don’t be afraid of making decisions

7 Steps to Better Decisions

1. Identify your goal.
As David Welch, PhD, professor of political science at the University of Waterloo in Ontario and author of Decisions, Decisions: The Art of Effective Decision Making, explains, “People who aren’t self-reflective are going to end up making bad decisions because they don’t really know what they want in the first place.” Before you switch jobs, ask yourself: Do I really want a different career? Or do I just want a different boss? Don’t make a decision based on the wrong problem.

2. Eliminate choices by setting standards.
If you’re trying to buy a digital camera, list the features you’ll actually use. Any camera that has them is therefore good enough for you; ignore anything fancier. Speaking of which…

3. Don’t worry about finding the “best.”
How good you feel about your decisions is usually more important than how good they are objectively.

4. Be aware of biases.
They can lead smart people to make dumb decisions. For example: We hate to lose more than we like to win, which can result in behavior such as holding on to a tanking stock instead of accepting a loss. We remember vivid examples better than facts, which is why plane crashes stick in our heads more than statistics on air safety. And we’re susceptible to how information is framed—a “cash discount” is more appealing than “no credit card surcharge.” Keeping these biases in mind can help you think clearly.

5. Try not to rush.
People tend to make poorer choices when they’re in a bad mood or under a lot of stress. When facing a complex decision, use your conscious brain to gather the information you need, and then take a break. Go for a walk. Spend a half hour meditating. Take a nap. Have a beer. The idea is to give your unconscious mind some time to do its work. The decision you make afterward is more likely to be the right (or at least a perfectly acceptable) one.

6. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
When possible, eliminate the need for decisions by establishing rules for yourself. You will go to yoga every weekend. You will not have more than two glasses of wine. You will buy whatever toilet paper is on sale.

7. Do a postgame analysis.
After each decision you make, ask yourself how you felt afterward and what about the experience you can apply in the future.

DON’T BE JUDGEMENTAL

13 Signs You’re a Judgmental Person

Here are some signs to look out for:

1. You believe that everyone is out to get you.
2. You expect other people to be consistent all the time.
3. You struggle to see beyond a person’s flaws.
4. You easily skip to conclusions.
5. You struggle to tolerate ambiguity and uncertainty.
6. You’re intolerant of people unlike you.
7. You’re generally pessimistic about life.
8. You tend to believe people are either ‘good’ or ‘bad.’
9. You struggle to truly appreciate or see the beauty in others.
10. You have low self-worth.
11. You feel anxious around other people.
12. You’re suspicious and untrusting.
13. You have a strong inner critic who judges you.

Be honest. How many of these signs can you relate to? Also, did you receive any strong or uncomfortable feelings while reading through this list (e.g. anger, defensiveness, shock, fear)? If so, you were probably triggered, meaning that judgmentalism is likely an issue for you.

PERKONGSIAN 1 HARI 1 HADIS

Menyembunyikan Ilmu

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ سُئِلَ عَنْ عِلْمٍ فَكَتَمَهُ أَلْجَمَهُ اللَّهُ بِلِجَامٍ مِنْ نَارٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

Daripada Abu Hurairah RA ia berkata, “Rasulullah SAW  bersabda: “Barang siapa ditanya mengenai suatu ilmu dan ia menyembunyikannya, maka ia akan dipukul dengan pukulan dari api neraka pada hari kiamat.” (Abu Daud No: 3173) Status: Hadis Hasan

Pengajaran:

1.  Ilmu bermanfaat yang ada pada seorang mukmin sama ada ilmu agama atau ilmu keduniaan, perlu disebarkan atau disampaikan untuk manfaat orang lain.

2.  Ilmu bermanfaat yang diajar kepada orang lain akan menjadi bekalan pahala berterusan selepas seseorang itu meninggal dunia

3.  Mereka yang enggan menyampaikan ilmu yang benar serta menyembunyikannya dengan tidak menyampaikan kepada orang lain akan dihukum di akhirat nanti.

4. Bagi mereka yang berilmu, jauhilah dari sifat kedekut untuk berkongsi dan menyebarkan ilmu bermanfaat lebih-lebih lagi yang diperlukan oleh orang lain.

Marilah kita bersifat RAHMAH dengan menyampaikan ilmu agama dan ilmu yang bermanfaat untuk kehidupan dunia.

Semoga ilmu yang disampai, akan menjadikan orang lain lebih baik dan menjadi saham pahala berterusan buat kita.

CEGAH INFLUENZA !

Sebagai langkah pencegahan penularan jangkitan influenza pula, KKM ingin mengingatkan orang ramai agar sentiasa mengekalkan tahap kebersihan diri yang tinggi, kerap membasuh tangan dengan menggunakan air dan sabun atau hand sanitizer, mengamalkan adab batuk yang baik dan cara hidup sihat. Orang awam secara amnya dan golongan berisiko tinggi khususnya adalah digalakkan untuk mendapatkan pelalian vaksin influenza bermusim yang ditawarkan di kebanyakan fasiliti kesihatan swasta di seluruh negara. Bagi mereka yang mempunyai gejala jangkitan influenza adalah dinasihatkan untuk mengamalkan perkara berikut:

  • Berehat di rumah dan tidak pergi ke tempat tumpuan ramai. Sekiranya perlu ke tempat awam, mereka dinasihatkan untuk memakai penutup hidung dan mulut (face mask) dengan betul bagi mengelakkan penularan jangkitan melalui titisan pernafasan;
  • Menutup hidung dan mulut dengan tisu, tuala atau sapu tangan apabila batuk atau bersin. Seterusnya, tisu yang telah digunakan perlu dibuang dengan segera ke dalam tong sampah;
  • Mengelakkan dari berkongsi peralatan peribadi seperti tuala, sapu tangan dan sebagainya dengan individu yang lain;
  • Segera berjumpa dengan doktor untuk pemeriksaan bagi mendapatkan rawatan lanjut sekiranya gejala bertambah teruk seperti demam dan batuk / sakit tekak yang berterusan.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence (EQ or EI) is a term created by two researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayer – and popularized by Dan Goleman in his 1996 book of the same name.

We define EI as the ability to:

  • Recognize, understand and manage our own emotions
  • Recognize, understand and influence the emotions of others

In practical terms, this means being aware that emotions can drive our behavior and impact people (positively and negatively), and learning how to manage those emotions – both our own and others – especially when we are under pressure.
