A Day at the Hospital

I took leave yesterday as my daughters had checkups at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA). Not just one appointment, but two in different clinics. The first was an appointment with the speech therapist.

I let my wife accompany kakak and adik one by one in the therapy room while I took care one and another outside. This is because, based on past experiences, they are more cooperative with their ibu.

Their development is excellent and as normal as their peers. However, what worries us is that they can only combine two words meaningfully, whereas at this age, they are supposed to combine three meaningful words. For example, they currently say “Babah, lagi,” when they should be saying “Babah, nak lagi.” Another example is “Ibu, lapar,” instead of “Ibu, kakak/adik lapar,” while usually pointing to their stomach.

The therapist suggested that we vary the use of three-word combinations at home, such as “Babah pergi mandi” or “Ibu makan nasi.” It feels a little awkward, but insya-Allah, slowly but surely, we will get there.

The second appointment only involved kakak, as adik had been discharged during the previous session with the occupational therapist. Kakak was supposed to be discharged last time too, but unfortunately, her mood was not so good that day. This time, we were worried that she might get tired, which could affect her mood again. But Alhamdulillah, she did well and was finally discharged from the occupational therapy sessions.

As a reward, we celebrated with lunch at Me’nate Steak House.

Thank you, Allah, for everything.
