Can you imagine, on the very day you fly from Shenzhen to UTM for your PhD viva-voce, your wife has to be warded in preparation for delivery?
Disclaimer: As a supervisor, I didn’t know that his wife’s due date was just a day after his viva. In fact, I wasn’t even aware that she was pregnant. What I did know was that he got married just before defending his PhD proposal two years ago.
Congratulations to Wang Haosheng, my 12th PhD student under my main supervision, who successfully passed his viva today! As the verdict was announced, his wife had not yet given birth. Right after the session, he headed straight to Changi Airport to catch a flight back to Shenzhen. I truly hope he makes it in time to be by her side to welcome their first child.
A big thank you to Prof. Zaidatun for chairing the session so smoothly, and to both examiners, Prof. Ahmad Fauzi (UPM) and AP Dr. Sharifah, for their valuable and constructive comments. Appreciation also goes to the assistant chairman, Dr. Najihah, and the viva secretariat, especially Puan Ramlah.
Indeed, every student especially a PhD student has their own unique story.
