Baru-baru ini, kerajaan khususnya Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) mengumumkan bahawa pendidikan sivik akan diajar selama empat jam seminggu pada setiap tahap pendidikan iaitu dari peringkat prasekolah hinggalah ke tingkatan lima. Walaupun terdapat segelintir pihak yang kurang berpuas hati dengan keputusan ini, tindakan KPM ini dilihat wajar dengan situasi semasa dengan kepesatan teknologi pada hari ini. Malah kalau diimbas kembali kepada Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan (FPK), ia diwujudkan sebagai panduan kepada sistem pendidikan negara kita yang bertujuan untuk menghasilkan insan yang seimbang dan harmonis dari segi intelek, rohani, emosi dan jasmani. Tambahan pula, hala tuju pendidikan KPM pada era baharu ini adalah untuk memastikan kemenjadian murid berteraskan 4M iaitu membaca, menulis, mengira dan manusiawi. Manusiawi iaitu M keempat merupakan tambahan kepada 3M yang ditekankan sebelum ini. Ia membawa maksud hala tuju KPM era hari ini turut menekankan kepada penghasilan murid yang mempunyai kehidupan yang lebih mulia dengan nilai-nilai murni yang diterapkan dalam diri mereka. Malah penekanan kepada aspek nilai ini telah dititikberatkan dalam Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (PPPM) 2013-2025. Dalam laporan PPPM tersebut, terdapat 11 anjakan utama untuk mentransformasi sistem pendidikan negara yang mana anjakan ketiga ialah melahirkan rakyat yang menghayati nilai. Anjakan ini juga telah diterjemahkan dalam kurikulum standard sekolah rendah (KSSR) mahupun kurikulum standard sekolah menengah (KSSM). Dalam subjek matematik KSSM umpamanya, salah satu objektifnya ialah untuk memupuk dan mengamalkan nilai murni, bersikap positif terhadap matematik serta menghargai kepentingan dan keindahannya. Bagi mencapai tujuan tersebut, salah satu komponen dalam kerangka pembangunan kurikulum matematik sekolah menengah ialah nilai. Pendidikan nilai sebenarnya bermula dari rumah dan ia berterusan sepanjang hayat, tetapi nilai dalam pendidikan di sekolah memainkan peranan penting dalam kehidupan murid. Sehubungan itu, ia harus diajarkan di setiap sekolah untuk menambah nilai kepada murid-murid demi masa depan mereka yang lebih baik. Tambahan pula, sekolah adalah tempat di mana murid menggunakan sebahagian besar masa mereka dan mereka perlu belajar banyak nilai positif dalam kehidupan.
