Ada pelajar bertanyakan kepada saya terutamanya pelajar Phd ambilan 2016/2017 ke atas yang wajib menerbitkan sekurang-kurangnya satu artikel dalam jurnal berindeks Scopus sebelum viva, tentang bagaimana untuk memastikan sesebuah jurnal tersebut itu masih diindeks dalam pengkalan data Scopus. Selain merujuk kepada laman web Scopus (untuk institusi yang melanggan pengkalan data tersebut), kita boleh merujuk laman web berikut..
Caranya, taip nama jurnal di kotak carian, dan taraaaaaaa…. nama jurnal akan terpapar. Apabila nama jurnal yang anda cari keluar, jangan terlalu excited sangat sebab ada jurnal yang telah ditamatkan status Scopusnya. Anda perlu melihat maklumat lanjut jurnal tersebut. Contohnya, jurnal berikut (lihat gambar) yang diindeks dalam Scopus sejak tahun 2000 hingga 2017, tetapi tidak lagi diindeks Scopus bermula tahun 2018. Anda juga kena pastikan nombor ISSN yang tertera sama dengan laman web rasmi jurnal tersebut. Ini kerana banyak jurnal FAKE yang wujud ketika ini.
Ada juga yang bertanyakan apa fungsi Q1 sampai Q4 tu? Baiklah, pertama sekali jangan samakan Q1-Q4 Scopus dengan Q1-Q4 untuk jurnal-jurnal yang diindeks dalam Web of Science (WOS). Q1 hingga Q4 untuk jurnal-jurnal berindeks Scopus merujuk kepada quartile ranking jurnal dalam sesuatu subdisiplin menggunakan SJR citation index. Contohnya dalam subdisiplin pendidikan (pendidikan matematik) (lihat gambar),

Macam mana ditentukan kedudukan sesebuah jurnal sama ada dalam Q1, Q2, Q3 atau Q4? Terdapat mekanisme, pengiraan dan prosedur tertentu untuk mengira SJR citation index yang kemudiannya digunakan untuk menentukan kedudukan jurnal-jurnal tersebut sama ada dalam Q1, Q2, Q3 mahupun Q4. Antaranya mengambilkira bilangan sitasi (citations) yang diterima oleh sesebuah jurnal, dan adakah sitasi tersebut datangnya dari jurnal-jurnal yang penting dan berprestij. Apabila SJR citation index ini ditaburkan, Q1 merujuk kepada jurnal yang berada dalam 25% teratas dari taburan tersebut dan merupakan kuartil terbaik, Q2 merujuk kepada jurnal yang taburan SJR citation index nya berada antara 25% teratas dan 50% teratas, Q3 (75% teratas hingga 50% teratas), dan Q4 (25% terendah daripada keseluruhan taburan SJR citation index).
Kedudukan sesebuah jurnal dalam quartile juga boleh berubah-ubah mengikut pencapaian mereka. Jadi kalau nak selamat, kita hantar artikel kita ke jurnal-jurnal yang berada dalam Q1 atau Q2. Bukan apa, takut kalau kita hantar artikel ke jurnal Q4, dan jurnal tersebut tak perform sebelum artikel kita diterbitkan, status Scopusnya boleh ditarik balik. Wallahu a’lam
