SYNOPSIS
Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCM) is a revolutionary new class of construction materials for various civil engineering applications. ASTM D8058 – (Terminology 3.2.7) defines GCCM as “a factory-assembled geosynthetic composite consisting of a cementitious layer contained within a layer or layers of geosynthetic materials that becomes hardened when hydrated. Essentially, GCCM is concrete on a roll and it allows concrete construction without the need for plant or mixing equipment. Just add water!
This talk will cover typical properties of GCCM as well as its advantages and limitations in slope/wall reinforcement function. The applications of GCCM are many but the cores are channel lining, bund lining, slope protection, concrete remediation and weed suppression. GCCM installation method will be highlighted in this talk according to ASTM D8173-18 in which various aspects of site preparation, deployment, types of jointing, material selection and hydration will be explained. Lastly, GCCM testing in accordance to latest ASTM test standards as well as interpretation of test results will be highlighted in this talk.
