CROSS-CULTURAL SEMINAR – 15 February 2016 (Monday)

Dear all UTM postgraduate students,

School of Graduate Studies (SPS) UTM, in collaboration with the Counselling Centre, UTM, will organize a Cross-Cultural Seminar as in the following details:

Date :- 15 February 2016 (Monday)
Time :- 8.30 am to 4.30 pm
Venue :- CTL Hall, Block F54, UTM Johor Bahru
Speaker :- Mr. Zulfikar Ahmad, Counselling Officer, Counselling Centre, UTM Kuala Lumpur.

This one day seminar is designed to introduce issues of cross-cultural communication among staff and students. Skills in cross-cultural communication are essential in order to minimize problems and misunderstandings that arise from cultural differences. This seminar will encourage participants to focus on their communication style and how it is affected by culture because sometimes what is said is not what is meant.

The main objectives of this seminar are:
1. To understand how culture affects communication
2. To identify barriers to effective cross-cultural communication
3. To use communication skills to engage and interact successfully with students from different countries.

Admission is free. Light meal will be provided.

All postgraduate students are invited to this program.

Program details:
8.30 am: Students’ Registration
9.00 am: Welcoming remark from Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin, Deputy Dean (Program Development & Customer Relation) SPS
9.15 am: Ice Breaking Session
10.00 am: Slot 1 – Cross-Culture Talk (Part 1)
12.30 pm: Lunch, Break & Zuhr Prayer
2.00 pm: Slot 2 – Cross Culture Talk (Part 2)
4.30 pm: End of Program

International Graduate Conference on Engineering, Science and Humanities (IGCESH) is a biennial postgraduate conference organized by the UTM Postgraduate Student Society (PGSS-UTM) in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies UTM.

IGCESH 2016 provides a forum for accessing the most up-to-date and authoritative knowledge from graduate student’s research findings covering both industrial and academic world’s thereby sharing best practice in the fields of Engineering, Sciences and Humanities. The conference will provide an avenue to highlight recent developments and to identify emerging and future areas of growth in these exciting fields by the graduate students.

All extended abstracts (after reviewing process) will be published in the Conference Proceeding. Selected papers will be published in two volumes of Jurnal Teknologi (Special Issue on Sixth International Graduate Conference on Engineering, Science & Humanities) and The Malaysian Journal of Learning and Instruction (SCOPUS journals).

International Postgraduate Network (IPN.org) is hosting International Conference on Knowledge and Education Technology (ICKET 2015)  which will be held at Langkawi, Malaysia  on the November 03-04, 2015.
