The Institute of Ocean and Earth Sciences (IOES) at Universiti Malaya, in collaboration with UPM, is organizing a workshop entitled “Application of -Omics Technologies for Understanding Microbial Response to Environmental Stress”. The workshop will be held on 15-18 March 2016, at the Institute of Graduate Studies, UM Kuala Lumpur.
We are pleased to invite postgraduate students and early career researchers who are interested in stress response and the application of transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and metagenomics in microorganisms, particularly in the context of ecological and environmental studies.
Local and international experts will give introductory lectures and guidelines on designing experiments, as well as provide a hands-on training session on the isolation and identification of soil microfungi, which are key players in the soil ecosystem.
Please refer to the attached brochure for more information on the programme, list of speakers and fee structure. For further inquiries, you are welcome to email the Secretariat (microb.omics.workshop@gmail.com).

(We accept Local Order)

Why attend this workshop:

  • fundamentals of swarm intelligence
  • particle swarm optimization, ant algorithms, artificial bee colony optimization, bacterial foraging optimization, firefly optimization, fish school optimization, and others
  • optimization theory, specifically different classes of optimization problems including constrained optimization, optimization in dynamic environments, multi-objective optimization, and multimodal optimization
  • how to apply the computational swarm intelligence algorithms to solve optimization problems of the different optimization problem classes
  • how to apply the computational swarm intelligence algorithms to train neural networks, to cluster data, to perform DNA sequence alignment, and to train neural networks, amongst other problems.

The workshop participants need no knowledge of any programming language or knowledge of artificial intelligence or computational intelligence.

The workshop will provide participants with practical exercises on applying particle swarm optimization algorithms to solve optimization problems.  Participants are expected to bring their laptops to the workshop.
