Synopsis
This lecture and workshop provide guidelines in writing winning research proposals. Drawing from his own experience in writing, defending and evaluating research proposals, the fascilitator will share guidance and tips to fulfill the finer aspects of research proposal evaluation; the do’s and don’ts. In particular, the presentation will elaborate on MOSTI and MOHE fund evaluation criteria, as well as UTM Own Grant (GUP etc).
Learning Objectives
After undergoing this workshop, the participants will be able to:
• Identify the various sources of research grants.
• Characterise the scope, basic requirements and proposal mechanisms of each type of MOHE. MOSTI and UTM grants.
• Explain the important aspects that need to be considered in preparing winning research proposals.
• Develop a potentially winnable grant proposal.
Speaker
Professor Dr. Omar bin Yaakob is a lecturer and researcher at the Marine Technology Centre, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He currently leads 7 research projects under various funding mechanisms; FRGS, ERGS, PRGS, TRGS, KettHA fund, Contract research, Look East Policy Fund and UTM-GUP fund. He recently secured a new grant under the FRGS 2017/1 funding. He has successfully completed 8 projects including 3 funded under Sciencefund project. He is a member of MOHE Fund evaluator panel and is happy to share his proposal writing and evaluation experience with other researchers within and outside UTM. Prof Omar is is a Chartered Engineer (UK), Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and an Associate of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).
