This is rather off topic from any academic or research interest. I just wanted to lament on the perspective of one’s conscience. At 0612 this morning, a motorcycle rammed into the back of my car. How can I be so precise on the time? I had stopped on the right lane to give way to a bus on the left who was about to start off its journey again from picking up passengers at a bus stop so I was watching the bus & straightaway looked at the dashboard clock when I heard the loud bang. Then, I looked back to see what hit my car & saw a muslim girl (she was wearing hijab) on a motorbike with either a scared or in-pain face. Automatically I gave a left signal and went to the left side of the road, got out and inspected my car. At the same time waiting for the motorcycle that hit my car to follow suit. It never happen! She ran off-probably scared or dumb-wise; when a female is involved in an accident in the dark hour (either early morning or late at night) usually it is wise to go straight to the police station. I’m not sure if the girl did u-turn to go to the police station. But I was really pissed off. Though my car was intact, my right rear bumper was shoved down a bit from its original place and there are 2 bad scratches from the motorbike hitting on the bumper. All I wanted from her was an apology. Apparently she has no conscience from what she had done. I didn’t pursue this matter, didn’t go to the police to make a report because of 2 things. First, 4 years ago I was also rammed from behind by a lorry & the driver made a different claim to the police to get away from having to pay me the compensation. Second, I didn’t get to see the motorcycle’s plate no. so it’ll be useless for the report.
What I’d like to highlight here to anyone reading this post; if you’re ever involved in an accident regardless minor or major-own it up if you’re at fault. Ask yourself and address your conscience. To the muslim girl who rammed into me this morning, though you may never read this; Allah is always watching
