Akmaliza Abdullah received her B.A. in Usuluddin with first class honours from University of Malaya and an M.A. in Islamic Civilization from the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC), IIUM. Her Master thesis is on Biographical Dictionaries: Sources of Eminent Women in the Islamic History with Special Reference to Tarikh Baghdad and Tarikh Madinat Dimashq under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mehmet Ipsirli. Later, she attended Institute of Malay World and Civilization, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia to undertake her doctoral degree and completed her thesis entitled Nature in the Malay Worldview based on the Literary Works of Raja Ali Haji under the supervision of Professor Dr. Abdul Latif Samian. Currently, she is a senior lecturer at the Academy of Islamic Civilization, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor.
She is one of the editorial board members of UMRAN – International Journal of Islamic and Civilizational Studies. Her research interests include Islamic Civilization, Malay World and Civilization, women studies and Islamic tourism.
