Klebang Coconut Shake

IMG_7451

When we were in Melaka, our friends told us that we must try the famous coconut shake there.  So, we went.  My … My … What a surprise.  There were long queues at the shop.  They have a take away counter at the entrance and there was a very long queue there too.

Of course there are many young coconuts there.

Voila!  These are the famous coconut shakes of Klebang.  Love it and it’s cheap!

Brazil Got Its First Multi-Standard DC Fast Charger

Throughout the world there has been an ailment caused by the lack of a united charging standard, but a temporary cure may be provided by the multi-standard charger.

ABB recently announced a three-head 50 kW Terra 53CJG installation in Brazil – “the first universal vehicle charger” in the country, which interestingly powers up a Renault Fluence Z.E in the promo shots.

Renault is strong in Brazil, so it’s not too strange that from time to time they deliver some EVs there (such as the Kangoo Z.E. and Twizy), but none of those cars use DC fast charging – which is probably the reason for the Fluence ZE’s appearance at the station.

For DC-ready cars, Terra 53CJG offers both CHAdeMO and SAE Combo (CCS).

For AC, there is the European Type 2 plug (which is different than Type 1, aka J1772). It seems that this Fluence Z.E. is Type 2 ready, in contrast to those sold in Europe with J1772 .

In our research, we are trying to avoid this situation where you have three heads to charge the different EV requirements.  We are working on having a universal charger that can detect the type of EV and charge it accordingly, insyaallah.

DAAD-DIES Call for Applications: Proposal Writing

please allow me to inform you about an open call for applications for the DIES ProGRANT Proposal Writing for Research Projects: Practical-oriented trainings for New Researchers.

The aim of DIES ProGRANT is to train researchers and young PhD holders in developing a promising research proposal for national or international research funding (every participant will have the opportunity to tailor their application to the funding institution of their choice). Researchers from all disciplines can apply for this course. Each group will consist of 30 participants from the region. Because of its multicultural nature, DIES ProGRANT is also an effective tool for promoting international research and relationships.

Course Dates:
Seminar I:                    April 18th – 22nd, 2016, Jakarta, Indonesia
E-Learning Module:    May – June 2016
Seminar II:                    November 14th – 18th, 2016, Bali, Indonesia

Potential participants are researchers and PhD-holders from Indonesia and Malaysia.

Selection criteria are that participants:

  • Must hold a doctoral degree or have equivalent research experience
  • Have an affiliation to an academic institution in the above mentioned countries
  • Possess excellent English language skills, both written and spoken
  • Be preferably at the beginning or middle stages of their research career.

30 participants will be selected according to the quality of their exposé and also based on regional and institutional profiles. Applicants will be given a final decision by mid-February 2016.

The costs for this training course will be mainly covered by funds of the DAAD (travel expenses, accomodation and meals, course expenses).

Participants and/or their home institutions are expected to cover local transportation in their home countries (for example: taxi to airport), visa costs (if applicable), health insurance and possible additional per diems for the stay in Indonesia.

Deadline for applications is January 3rd, 2016, 11:00 pm German time.
