This is one webminar that I am involved in directly as the Chairperson. It was an amazing experience.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected the normal way of Teaching-Learning and Assessment conduct in education. Teaching becomes remote and alternative assessments are prevalent. Open book examinations have always been an alternative assessment used in engineering education. The nature of the complexity of engineering problems require application of several principles, tasks and/or standards or codes of practice to solve. The first part of the webinar explains the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) & Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) Guiding Principles on Teaching-Learning and Assessment Implementation during COVID-19 Pandemic, which stipulated that all programmes are to ensure the attainment of the 12 Programme Outcomes (POs) according to the Standards and the purpose of accreditation shall not be compromised. How open book examinations can be used will be elaborated. The second part of the webinar focuses on utilising Constructive Alignment as the underpinning principle to make open book examination questions. Tips and examples on coming up with open book examinations will also be shared.
