Dr. Noor Azurati Ahmad @ Salleh is an Associate Professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur, specializing in embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, and IoT for sustainable technology solutions. She earned her B.Eng. in Computer Engineering (2001) and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering (2006) from UTM, followed by a PhD in Embedded Systems from the University of Leicester (2013). Dr. Noor Azurati is a Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL), a Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE), and holds certification in Big Data systems from Hortonworks (2018). She is also a registered Professional Technologist (Ts) in the Electrical and Electronics field.
Her industry experience includes serving as an engineer at Sapura Secured Technologies Sdn. Bhd., where she supported SIRIM qualification tests for three military products, securing certification within four months. She has played a key role in the RM2.2 million Cyber Evidence Consultation project with Cybersecurity Malaysia, enabling the development of a pre-commercialized Integrated Cyber Evidence Big Data System. This high-impact collaboration also sponsored her and her team to attend advanced Big Data training with Hortonworks in Silicon Valley in 2018.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Dr. Noor Azurati has supervised more than 10 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate students. Her students have achieved notable success, including the publication of research in high-impact journals, such as a Q1 ISI WoS SENSORS journal article in 2017 on adaptive indoor positioning systems.
Dr. Noor Azurati is an active member of the IEEE and IEEE Computer Society, and a Registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. Her research focuses on design, software architecture, and testing for real-time embedded systems, as well as the development of cyber-physical systems, IoT applications, and green ICT for Smart City initiatives. She holds two copyrights for indoor positioning systems and has published over 38 papers in IoT, pervasive computing, and embedded systems.
As UTM’s AIS Entrepreneurial and Innovation Coordinator (2015-2017), she established the AIS Incubator, generating over RM136,000 in revenue through courses in IoT, Big Data, and cybersecurity for industry and academia. She led the Cyber-Physical Systems Research Group from 2017 to 2018, managing 14 researchers to meet their KPIs. In 2018, she was appointed Deputy Director of Innovation and Commercialization at UTM Kuala Lumpur and is currently the Director of Innovation and Commercialisation Centre at Technovation Park, Johor. Leading a team of 24, she has been instrumental in developing five core UTM policies on IP management, spin-off establishment, commercialization, entrepreneurial leave, and consultancy.
Under her direction, the ICCubeX Incubator Program was launched, offering structured entrepreneurial training, prototype funding, and incubator space to support spin-off companies. Dr. Noor Azurati led the 2020 MoU between UTM and Aberystwyth University to advance technology transfer for biorefining and bioprocessing.
Her achievements include the Anugerah Citra Karisma Award (2016), multiple medals in INATEX and MTE for innovations including ADIPS and ALWAIS (Adaptive, Light-Weight, Accurate Indoor Positioning System), and a 5-Star Rating in 2019 for her Knowledge Transfer Project on Malaysia’s Embedded System Programming Challenge (MESPC18). Dr. Noor Azurati’s work continues to enhance UTM’s reputation in sustainable innovation and technology transfer.
