SKKK 2123 Principles of Chemical Processes 2

SYNOPSIS

This course introduces students to the chemical engineering profession and the fundamental operations of chemical process equipment. It also provides students with the basic principles of chemical engineering energy balances as well as calculation techniques to solve the material and energy balance problems for chemical process systems and equipment.

By the end of the course, students should have the:

  1. Ability to apply basis, reference conditions, unit conversion, process diagram for various chemical processes and process variables when solving problem.
  2. Ability to solve energy balances with respect to changes in temperature, pressure and phase for non-reactive process
  3. Ability to calculate the standard heat of reactions using Hess’ Law, heat of formation and heat of combustions and then solve problems for reactive processes.
  4. Ability to calculate the entropy changes in a given process
  5. Ability to analyze and calculate the performance of power and refrigeration cycles
  6. Ability to develop Process Flow Diagram (PFD) with mass and energy balance calculations of chemical processes.
  7. Ability to conduct problem solving solution of mass and energy problem using principle of conservation
  8. Choose to commit in the preparation of learning experience process using E-Portfolio
