2021 Day 193 Task – Final Exam Refinery and Petrochemical Technology

Today is the final examination day for this subject – Refinery and Petrochemical Technology, that I taught. This is the first time we had to do an online final examination and also a new format for me.
New format means we release Q1, Q2, Q3 and so on in specific times. It began with the release of Q1 and student will answer the question. After 30 minutes, student will have to submit the answer to e-learning. Then Question 2 will be released via e-Learning again, then student will take 40 minutes to answer, then upload it to e-learning.

I found it cool as well as I can immediately mark Q1 while students were answering Q2. As a result I can swiftly start marking the papers via eLearning.

2021 Day 192 Task – Learned to Set Up eLearning for Final Exam

In order to ensure a more secure final exam, I decided to adjust final exam so that students will do Q1 first, followed by Q2, then Q3 and finally Q4. However, it require me to learn the setting up of elearning. I have to play around and created few assignments in elearning and tried the restriction functions. To make long story short, I managed to set up the final exam in a new way, one by one questions will be released when students take the final exam. I’m grateful to my other half who helped me with the set up of my elearning.

2021 Day 191 Task – Exploring and Working on EasyChair Platform as the Chair

Before this, I only used Easychair as an author who submit his paper and uploading his revised version. However, for RCEE2021, I am the Program Director and as mentioned before I am also the Chair for our RCEE2021 Easychair platform. As good as it sound, I am not well verse about Easychair’s most powerful function/role which is the Chair.

Today, I explored a bit and sent an email to all authors to announce something. It worked from my side. I hope it also work on the author’s side, meaning they receive the email from us.

Other tasks highlighted for the day:

  • Review Energy Manuscript
  • Review Draft ECE
  • Agenda for RCEE2021 Meeting prepared
  • Refinery solutions and carry marks updated
  • CET Corrections

2021 Day 190 Task – Checked Education for Chemical Engineer Paper Draft

If yesterday I was checking paper draft for Energy Conversion and Management Journal, today I checked paper draft for Education for Chemical Engineer (ECE) prepared by Nazrul and the gang. This is still the same paper as the one I mentioned the other day. It’s actually the 2nd draft after improvement has been done following my suggestions and comments. I managed to check whole of the paper but there are few things that I need to do with the paper – that are to improve Table 6 and 7 and also add a new paragraph for discussion and analysis.

In Syaa Allah the paper will be fine tomorrow.. Hope so.

2021 Day 189 Task – Checked Energy Conversion & Management Paper Draft

My main task today was purely to check my student’s ECM paper draft which has been pending for 2 weeks. I found it tough to check the paper before this because I need to revamp the Introduction part a lot and that alone has pretty much delayed me. However, the end of today I am very pleased that I managed to stay focused and check the paper up to 90% of the content. I will complete the remaining 10% tomorrow and return the draft back to my student.

Important point: I am very impressed with my student’s work. After all she managed to prepare this 50 page manuscript in 3 months as a PSM student. Remarkable!

2021 Day 188 Task – Pitching Our Project @ Safety Champion in Engineering Education (SCEE), RAE, UK

Today, we pitched Our Project @ Safety Champion in Engineering Education (SCEE) Project under Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE), UK. It was quite a nerve-racking experience. But I felt I did quite well. We managed to have a very super last minute meeting just before the SCEE program, managed to get the slide prepared in good shape and managed to present the proposal. We hope to get pass to Phase 2 of SCEE Fellowship program. In Syaa Allah. More pictures and information here.

Other highlighted task of the day:

  • CEE Meeting No. 6 2021 @ 9am
  • SCEE RAE Hub Meeting @ 2.30pm
  • Updated SEEM website for the T&L Kopitiam Event

2021 Day 187 Task – CEE Meeting #6 & SCEE RAE Final Slide Preparation

Today I prepared CEE Meeting #6 Slide since I will be hosting our 6th CEE meeting tomorrow. Quite a number of Agendas have been set up for discussion and I hope the meeting will be a fruitful one. On top of that I also spent quite some time to prepare the final presentation for SCEE RAE presentation. It is not Week no. 10 in the SCEE RAE program and it is the end of Phase 1 for our prestigious fellowship under SCEE RAE. I have passed the slide to the team for them to check before we have a Hub meeting tomorrow after lunch.

Other tasks highlighted today:

  • Checked ECM paper
  • Checked potential ECE paper.

2021 Day 186 Task – Checked Potential ECE Paper Publication

I have listed quite a bunch tasks to be completed today. Once of it includes the checking of Nazrul’s paper that is about Engineering Education Scholarly Experiential sharing. The paper was intended for other journal but after listening to Nazrul’s intention and also going through swiftly the paper content, I suggested the paper to be enhanced and submitted to Education for Chemical Engineer (ECE) journal.

ECE is definitely an amazing platform for sharing Engineering Education Scholarly practice sharing and also Engineering Education Research (EER). The recent update last 2 weeks had happily declared that this journal has an impact factor of 2.333. Before this there’s no impact factor recorded and a sudden jump from nothing to 2.333 is such an spectacular success for this highly reputable journal.

2021 Day 185 Task – Paper Project Meeting

I had a online meeting with Shams and Eliya, our new team for few paper writing projects. Both of them are very energetic and highly enthusiastic students that just completed their bachelor degree from UTM and now in pursue of their post graduate studies overseas. I am very fortunate to have them because they wanted to be guided for journal publications. It is imperative to note that both of them are not presently my official active students. Both are just 2 person that have completed their study but want to learn and publish their research work.

It’s easier to coach, mentor and guide those who wants to publish journal paper compared to those who are not willing to do it. I am also fortunate because my present and passed PSM are very driven and wanted to write and publish. As a Supervisor, our task is to expose, explain to them the importance and spirit behind paper publication, guide, mentor and coach them the best that we can.

I always make it a point to provide feedback to their weekly progress, so the students know what they should improve. By doing this, they also will feel happy and appreciative because they know that their SV is really going through their work and they will always want to do their best. In Syaa Allah.

2021 Day 184 Task – Interview CEE ARO and Final Exam MKKK1653

Today is the day for Plant Design Project presentation which takes place from 9am to 1pm. However, I cannot attend the Plant Design Project presentation because at the same time I have the Final Exam for Master Chemical Safety MKKK1653 that takes place from 8.30pm to 1pm. Even though the final exam is made online and mostly managed by AP Dr. Norzita, I still have to be there and make myself available, just in case, because my questions are also asked in the final exam.

Subsequently after that, at 2.30pm we’ll have an interview session for CEE Assistant Research Officer position. The interview will also take place virtually. InsyaAllah we hope that we can find a suitable candidate after not successfully getting one from the previous 3 interview sessions.
