Unit Operations and Industrial Processes Presentation in Class (SKKC 3333)

Today, I was invited to review the presentations from 3rd year student in the class of my other half, PM Dr. Mazura Jusoh. The presentations cover Oil and Gas up-stream, mid-stream, down-stream, as well as Mill processing and Edible oil Processing. It was great presentation and excellent exposure for the students before they go out to undergo the industrial training (Latihan Industri).

Officiating EngineFest 2018 Organized by IEM UTM Student Chapter

It’s an honour to officiate our Junior / Student Institute Engineer Malaysia (IEM) Chapter program last Saturday (5th May 2018). The program is held every year, but from what we were informed, the programs and activities vary from year to year. This round, the program was held at Faculti Alam Bina (Architecture Faculty) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Some of the contests were Water Rocket Challenge, building bridges from spaghetti string, submarine competition and many more. It’s amazingly interesting to see the efforts, joy, spirit, commitment as well as the creativity and innovation of the students (committee and participants).  In my speech, I wish that this event can be continuously organized in future to encourage and entice our younger generation to embrace science, technology and engineering. InsyaAllah.

Water Rocket Challenge Among Johor Bahru Primary Schools

Alongside with my other half, Associate Professor Dr. Mazura Jusoh and the Operation Manager of SGSHOP, Mr Lua, we became the judge for this amazing Water Rocket Challenge. The participants were mostly standard 5 students, who I must admit surprisingly outstanding technically, when it comes to building and designing such water rocket.

We’ve Voted in the Malaysia’s 14th General Election. Have you?

With my siblings after voting.

It’s our responsibility to vote for our own leaders. That’s what we have done together.

Implementing Coorporative Learning (CL) in Class

Today, I implemented Cooperative Learning (CL) technique in my Master’s Safety Class. It was interesting and I think it can be implemented with some additional improvements on my side.

What is Cooperative Learning?

Cooperative learning is a successful teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject.

Following are few details on the CL implementation in my class:

  • Number of students = 12
  • Number of groups = 4
  • Number of students per group = 3
  • A mahjong paper is provided for each expert group to create the note.
  • A time was allocated for the students to research their own sub-topic. There were 3 sub-topics, which means 1 student will get 1 sub-topic in each group.
  • Subsequently, all expert members will meet up, discuss and create a note to later teach their friends.
  • This was performed in the gallery walk.

Information Technology Award @ Anugerah Teknologi Maklumat (ATM) 2018

This year, I represented the faculty for the Anugerah Teknologi Maklumat (ATM). This was my second time representing my faculty. This time I have some experienced after my solo presentation last year. Last year presentation was a naive, immature, lack of information, lack of experience presentation. This year, I hope we can get something out of all those who contested. We’re hoping to be in the top 3 position. That will be good enough for us. Lets wait and see in the Anugerah Citra Karisma which will take place in the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Cooperative Learning (CL) Workshop for Afghanistan Lecturers

I was given the opportunity to co-handle a Workshop of Cooperative Learning (CL) for about 25 Afghanistan lecturers.

Networking Visit #4 – COMSATS, Lahore, Pakistan
