Meeting on Faculty’s Income Generation vs Team from TNCPI
The first meeting for today was a meeting with Research Alliance FMRA Office (TNCPI) under the Task Force Income Generation, which was chaired by Prof Dr. Madzlan Aziz and his team plus a representative from the UTM Treasury. Main gist of the discussion was explanation and discussion on how the faculty can increase it’s income via various methods. We became clearer on the several existing ways how to record, claim and generate more income for the faculty.

Chemical Disposal, Technical Evaluation, Technical Lab Tour… etc
I have several pre-scheduled tasks for today (as expected after holding this position).
First, made a site visit to the chemical disposal storage which at 9 am, a team of technical staffs will work together to clear and transfer the waste chemicals to another chemical disposal storage area. Basically, we intend to have only one waste chemical storage for easier management and facilitation.
Secondly, there was this Penilaian Teknikal meeting for some items that will be purchased. This was chaired by the Timbalan Dekan Penyelidikan & Inovasi (TDPI). 4 Items were interestingly been reviewed 🙂 .
Thirdly, there was this official visit by Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI) to our faculty. Later, I brought the delegation to visit some of our labs. Exactly 5 of the labs. Thanks to the help of Dr. Anam, Jamal, Firdaus, Azri, Roslan, Dr. Wan Rosli, who helped to guide and explained about the labs etc to the Indonesian delegates. Credit to Shahril, our cameraman for the day.

Earlier in the morning, the technical staffs worked together (gotong-royong) to clear, clean the previous FCE chemical waste disposal storage area. Great effort, remarkable teamwork.
Subsequently, I had several unofficial meetings with several important people in the faculty – for technology & knowledge transfer, job/task transfer, comprehending many things, a bit planing and a bit of this and that… 🙂
Most importantly, I need to stay relax, calm and not to stress out myself.
Back home, I had a good badminton with my other half and kids 🙂 Need to balance life… work… family… exercise… Majalah 3… and writing this post 😉 then get some rest…
Screeching Annoying Alarm in the Faculty
Today’s story… (in history… 🙂 )
For me it’s historical. Never ever I had experienced this, but I am now, as I am holding this new position.
While I was attending this MKKH workshop Bilik Mesyuarat Fakulti (BMF) in the morning, the fire drill / alarm triggered. Well, it’s another noisy fire drill, I whispered in my heart. I continued my work or rather preparing for the workshop that is about to commence.
Then suddenly, someone, I forgot who, yelled to me, “Zaki, the alarm is ringing, stop it…“.
I responded, “Why me?”
He answered, “You’re the Facility Manager“…
Oh gosh! Yep… So, this is included in my job scope as well? I gulped. Well… here it goes. I checked what to do. Checked the fire alarm panel which happened to be just outside BMF. It’s a huge panel with so many LED indicators linking to so many spaces/rooms in the block (N-01). The light which was intermittently blinking signaled the source of problem was on the 1st floor. Problem is is I don’t know which part of 1st floor.
Then, I turned to the chief clerk (CC), Puan Roziah, which we all refer as Kak Gee. I asked her assistance to contact PHB to come and stop the freaking annoying alarm. Earlier, I also attempted to call the person in charge but that person could not be reached. Since I am supposed to be in the MKKH workshop, I then just asked Kak Gee’s help to keep on trying to call PHB. Then I left and started touring the 1st floor, checking if there is any fire or smoke or something that may have triggered the alarm. I notice nothing. I walked back to BMF, continued the MKKH workshop.
Few minutes after that, the alarm stopped! YES! I bounced from my sit and check out the panel. A guy casually dressed was there, about to close the alarm panel window door. I asked him, “What’s wrong…?”
He responded, it could be anything. Sometimes, due to spider… haha…
I requested that we have a key for the alarm panel door, just in case, the alarm triggered again. He gave it to me and that’s good. I passed it to the CC. So, next time, if the alarm triggered again, we can stop it earlier.
That’s a good progress 🙂 I think…
It’s Official – I’m appointed as the new FCEE Facility Manager
It’s a paradoxical emotion, I would say. It’s not something that I see myself being one. It’s not my wish. It’s not my hope. However, the management has put full trust on me to hold this new position, the Facility Manager. It is a position that merged from “Pengurusan Makmal” and “IT”. It’s a combination of 2 crucially important department. Although, I would not want to, but I eventually obliged to accept this faith, this position. I accept this as an “amanah”, a task that I need to put my very best effort to lead. I know there are better and more experienced colleague out there that can hold this position, but since the management appointed me, I accept it. InsyaAllah, I will try to do my best. Please guide and assist me throughout my journey as the new Facility Manager.
Up till this moment, I have not received the official appointment letter (hard copy). However, announcement has been made through email. Surprisingly this is a 3 year appointment. Normally, if I am not mistaken, it is always 2 years. Nevertheless, I will just do my job.
Although I am holding this new role, I hope all of my academic, research, supervision, consultancy etc will keep on moving. After all, that’s the main reason I am passionate about becoming a lecturer, an academician.
Wish me luck 🙂
