Day 184 Task – Preparing Open Book Examination for Engineering Courses

This is one webminar that I am involved in directly as the Chairperson. It was an amazing experience.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected the normal way of Teaching-Learning and Assessment conduct in education. Teaching becomes remote and alternative assessments are prevalent. Open book examinations have always been an alternative assessment used in engineering education. The nature of the complexity of engineering problems require application of several principles, tasks and/or standards or codes of practice to solve. The first part of the webinar explains the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) & Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) Guiding Principles on Teaching-Learning and Assessment Implementation during COVID-19 Pandemic, which stipulated that all programmes are to ensure the attainment of the 12 Programme Outcomes (POs) according to the Standards and the purpose of accreditation shall not be compromised. How open book examinations can be used will be elaborated. The second part of the webinar focuses on utilising Constructive Alignment as the underpinning principle to make open book examination questions. Tips and examples on coming up with open book examinations will also be shared.

Day 183 Task – Streamyard Rehearsal for Webminar tomorrow

It’s going to be my first time being a chairman for the webminar that will be held tomorrow. Dr. Nina from Fakulti Pendidikan helped me with the rehearsal. Yes, it’s a new experience and plenty of things to learn. I also did my own script and practiced a lot.

Day 182 Task – Checking, Preparing and Submitting ICLCA2020 Manuscript

By right today is the deadline to submit ICLCA2020 manuscript and also to pay for the early bird fee. And because of that, I am preparing for it till late evening. I am submitting 2 manuscripts to this conference which for the first time will be virtually conducted. One paper is from Siti Mariah (my Phd student) and another one from Nasyitah (my undergraduate research student). For ICoST2020, I submitted one manuscript which was Lim Jian Liang’s (my undergraduate research student) paper.

Today also marks the end of the 1st half of 2020 since it is 30th June 2020. I managed to detect that thanks to this official daily task recording practice. Tomorrow will be the beginning of the second half of 2020, starting from 1st july 2020 till 31st December 2020.

Day 181 Task – Workshop on full Paper Peer Review of 3rd International Conference on Separation Technology (ICoST 2020)

I was invited to the Workshop on full Paper Peer Review of 3rd International Conference on Separation Technology (ICoST 2020) as one of the technical reviewer which was held at Bilik Mesyuarat Utama (BMU), N01a. The event took 2 days, starting from today till tomorrow, but I managed to review all 5 manuscript given to me by afternoon. Lucky me, I can do other tasks after that. Alhamdulillah.

Day 178 Task – Editing Chemical Engineering Career Sharing for Chemical Engineering Students

Previously I had this chemical engineering career session sharing with 3 students. It was a 2.5 hour sessions and because I wanted to share it in Youtube, I have to go through it and edit this long video, thanks to Webex who allowed us to record all the session. After long hours of editing the video, finally it was complete. You can see the videos here.

Personally, I think this is an important session to help the students have better vision and comprehension on their future chemical engineering career. I hope this could help them brilliantly. I edited the videos using Camstasia 9.0 and I only have limited video editing skill so my videos are not that fancy, but sufficient to provide value to students.

Day 177 Task – Preparation of Manuscript to be submitted to ICLCA2020

Today, I dedicated the morning to focus on the preparation and submission of paper entitled ESTABLISHMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENERGY BENCHMARKING IN MALAYSIAN DOWNSTREAM PALM OIL INDUSTRY, which was prepared by my PSM student Nasyitah Husniyah Mahbob end of 2019.  This manuscript is to be submitted to the International Conference of Low Carbon Society 2020 (ICLCA)

Day 176 Task – Checking Student’s Thesis

Honestly, the mountain of tasks since yesterday have to be carried forward to today. Early morning, I focused on reading my PG student’s thesis. Halfway reading the thesis, I was attacked with headache. Did the headache came from reading the thesis? Maybe… I haven’t had this headache for quite some time. Luckily I have read the individual chapters few months before and have made massive corrections. So, this time the amount of correction was not as severe as before but there are still something here and there that need to be corrected, improved and adjusted. Finally around 2.30pm I managed to complete it and email it to my student. Hopefully after this the thesis will be in better shape and presentable for the panels. InsyaAllah. Amin.
