I Reached a New Milestone of Recording My Official Daily Tasks for Straight 100 Days

The Personal Challenge

This is indeed no easy task that I started at the beginning of 2020. I just felt like trying to record the highlights of official task that i perform each single day. By doing this, I am recording my own task, recall my own work in a particular day in 2020 and also reflect the tasks that I have done so far in 2020. At the same time, it is a medium to share to others who are not in the academic line to know what are the typical tasks that an academician like me do on a daily basis.

My Reflection

Day 100 Task – Completed Scanning and Renaming the PDF documentation Proof for Teaching Award 2019

This was a very melancholic momentous task that is not easy. Prior to this I have already prepared a file and all hard copy evidence to support the form and write up for the Citra Karisma Teaching Award 2019. However, due to Covid-19, UTM Lead has changed the format to the submission of totally softcopy forms. That simply means I have to prepare all the evidences in softcopy form, which is a lot.

But, finally Alhamdulillah I managed to complete all that and what is left is just to reorganize all the documents and evidence in pdf.

InsyaAllah that will be done tomorrow and day after tomorrow.

Day 99 Task – Checking My PhD Student Thesis Draft and Managing AJEE

I don’t have any official meetings for today. There are however other numerous micro and mini official tasks that needed to be dealt with. Among them are checking of my 2nd PHD Student work who is far up north, somewhere 850 km apart. It’s great to read her updates and progress. There was a little discussion and small decision about the chapters adjustments and the way to move forward. Despite of Covid-19 she has to submit a semester defer form.

Early in the morning I also received a new manuscript to be handled for AJEE. That’s fine. The only problem is the challenge to get suitable reviewers who agree to perform the reviewing process. For the first time I received multiple turned down for the review invitation. I am yet to find another person to review this latest manuscript.

Day 98 Task – RCEE Meeting Again :)

Previously before WFH, we had almost like weekly RCEE 2020 meetings to really get discuss and decide what ever needed to be done for the international conference. However, this morning we had our first Webex RCEE2020 meeting. Numerous updates and decisions were made during this important meeting. Once of it is the decision to switch the conference from a normal one to a virtual conference version. This decision have to be made in view of the social distancing instruction by the government in view of the spread of corona virus.

Plant Design Project (PDP) Discussion via Whatsapp Text and Audio

We just have to make full use of what we have and what we can do during this trying time. Hence, for the PDP discussion, I kept on discussing and get updates from my team via Whatsapp. For today, I started to evaluate their Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (CTPS) Skills, which I conducted using Whatsapp. Only if I have further questions, I will asked by making video whatsapp calls or Zoom session. I still have 3 more students to check on their CTPS work, Plant Description and Innovation.

Day 97 Task – Taklimat & Perbincangan Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran dan Pengajaran Sem 2 2019/2020

Today, the Chemical Engineering Program had a meeting with the Chair of School of Chemical & Energy Engineering. The 2 hour duration meeting conducted via Webex, was attended by 40 academic staffs. The chair presented about the guidelines on how to go about the academic session throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO). Generally, not only UTM but all universities and schools in Malaysia and the world are affected by the pandemic and we have to just follow instruction to work from home.

Day 96 Task – Graduate Success Attribute Class Assignment Management

In view of the MCO situation, I have reorganized my Graduate Success Attribute (GSA) Class. The class starts today after the MCO semester break and I have given the students tasks on the Leadership and Team Working Skills that will be based on the GSA Workbook written by Dr. Aziatul Niza Sadikin and Dr. Zalilah Shahir. All information and instructions have been updated in eLearing.

Day 95 Task – Updating iclcaconf.com Website to make it into Virtual Conference

In view of the Covid-19 pandemic situation, the earlier plan of the 6th International Conference on Low Carbon Asia & Beyond is now known as [Virtual Conference] the 6th International Conference on Low Carbon Asia & Beyond. Several adjustment have to be made and among them are the fees of the conference and the important deadlines.

Day 94 Task – Managing ASEAN Journal of Engineering Education (AJEE) Journal

Under the Center for Engineering Education (CEE), I was asked to manage the submission and reviewing of AJEE manuscript. It’s a new task I am assigned to but I kind of like to perform this task. Before this I was just a reviewer for multiple journals and conferences, but now I am taking the role of an editorial board.

I hope I can perform this task good enough and can manage to help in the publication of the 4th Volume of AJEE.
