Day 297 Task – Introduction to Engineering 2nd Class

We are supposed to have a one hour class today, but since next week there is a public holiday, hence the one hour class from next week will be replaced in advance. Hence we have a 2 hour class today.
The 2 hour class is packed with the introduction on Cooperative Learning (CL) and student’s first group presentation – to introduce their team names, logo, regulation etc.
It was a fruitful energetic session. I have stayed online up to 2 hours and 35 minutes, extending my time for those who wanted to ask any questions etc.

Day 296 Task – First Industrial Seminar and Profession (ISP) Week

Today is the first day for us to have the Industrial Seminar and Profession (ISP) session. In today’s session, I briefly introduced ISP and share about the course.
Subsequently, Prof. Dr. Khairiyah Mohd Yusof delivered a talk about how to be a world class engineer. She share precious information for the students and it is hopeful that the students are motivated and inspired to be a successful quality and great engineer later in future.
Dr. Tengku Zulaikha then turned out to guide students on how to use Taskade, an online project tool that allows reflection and team work progress job to be conducted online with the lecturers able to monitor their progress.

Day 295 Task – Resurrection of the GC in my lab

My masters and phd research were directly dealing with GC. It has been quite some time I have not really touch and played around with GC. When I received an aging Agilent 6890 GC from a senior colleague, my mission now is to repair, service and get that 18 year old GC up and running.
I spent first of the day together with Mr Hiew, the one I always turned to when it comes to GC purchase and service. He was at my disposal today. We discussed on how to get the GC back into operation and he gave many good advices.
I am very optimistic to get this GC back and running…. InsyaAllah. Pray for me.

Day 294 Task – First Introduction to Engineering (ITE) Class

Today, the time finally came and we will be starting our fully online ITE class. Honestly we are very nervous to conduct this online class. Not because we are not capable of handling the class, but more on handling the technical aspects of the online class as well as facing the fact that we are not in front of the students (not face to face).
The ITE class will be every Monday (11am to 1pm) and every Thursday (2pm- 3pm). And yeah.. everything will be online.
We believed it is going to be a challenge to handle the class in an online teaching atmosphere. But Alhamdulillah luckily, all the students are very interactive and super involved in the class. The responses were great, the feedback were good.
We’re now looking forward to keep on moving along with the class and do the best that we can. Amin.

Day 293 Task – CEE Meeting with the Treasury of UTM

The Centre for Engineering Education had a meeting with UTM Treasury in view of the massive renovation building that UTM CEE is going to execute in the near future. The main concern of the Treasury is capability of CEE to pay back such a huge amount of money that is loaned to CEE for the renovation.
In principle, the Treasury has agreed to financed the renovation and UTM CEE will commence the loan payment at an agreed point of time and the loan have to be paid within an agreed time period.
Personally for me, it is a very mind-blowing challenge to pay for the loan which is very massive in magnitude. The present leadership of UTM CEE strongly believe that they mission is possible.
I hope and pray that Allah will help us on this mission. Amin.

Day 291 Task – eLearning Set Up for All Courses I am Teaching This Coming Semester

This is definitely a must do this weekend. I must set up my eLearning because I believe students will be visiting and checking the eLearning for information regarding the class. I haven’t yet done it but I will prepare the eLearning introduction part for the above listed courses. Yes, I will be teaching all the above courses:
- MKKH1513 – Environmental Management (EM)
- SETK1511 – Industrial Seminar and Profession (ISP)
- SETK1523 – Introduction to Engineering (ITE)
I’m really excited to start again teaching this semester after quite a long time hibernating from teaching, but the main challenges will be to conduct the teaching online and to get the students actively engage. We have that covered for ITE and ISP because all the lecturers have been actively preparing to face the situation. But for EM, I have not really prepared. But I have clear and rough idea what and how to run the class.
All the best to all academicians in preparing and running the class online. Also best of luck to all students who will start learning online from home and hostel.

Day 258 Task – Research Methodology Book Project Meeting

The Faculty of Engineering has asked each schools under its umbrella to prepare and publish a research methodology book. For that purpose, we had a meeting which was held after lunch at Bilik Mesyuarat Fakulti N01 to discuss the matter and approach. The initial plan was a bit confusing for a lot of us and many have opted to wait for the meeting for deciding the best approach to write the research methodology according to everyone’s expertise.
After quite a lengthy discussion, we unanimously decide on one approach. We have roughly 5 weeks to prepare the chapter. InsyaAllah it is possible. We’ll do it.

Day 220 Task – Preparation for Surau Al-Taqwa for the 1st Ever Surau Jumaat

Alhamdullillah, Surau Al Taqwa telah diberikan kebenaran untuk mengadakan Solat Jumaat bermula hari ini, 7 Ogos 2020.
Kesemua ahli kariah warganegara berumur antara 15 hingga 70 tahun dijemput bersama mendirikan solat Jumaat di sini.
Aturcara :
12.00 pm
Kaunter Pendaftaran dibuka.
12.15 pm
Bacaan Surah Al-Kahfi.
1.00 pm
Pengisytiharan Solat Jumaat.
1.10 pm
Pagar masuk akan ditutup.
Bagi melancarkan proses pendaftaran dan semakan suhu, tuan-tuan digalakkan mendaftar nama terlebih dahulu di sini :

Jemaah perlu mengikut Tatacara Solat Jumaat yang telah digariskan seperti berikut :
1. Mengambil wuduk dari rumah.

3. Memakai pelitup mulut.
4. Mendaftar nama dan semakan suhu di kaunter pendaftaran.
5. Masuk mengikut pintu yg disediakan dan akan dibantu oleh petugas.
6. Gunakan Sanitizer tangan yang disediakan.
7. Terus ke tempat yang telah ditandakan.
8. Menjaga jarak sosial minima 1m.
9. Masuk dan keluar dari kawasan solat dengan teratur dan berjarak.
