Day 192 Task – Master Thesis Correction Review

As an internal examiner to Dr. Muhammad Tahir’s Student which I became earlier this February 2020, I have to check and approve his improvement and correction made in his dissertation. I took some time to review and check the correction made of his thesis titled “PHOTOCATALYTIC WATER SPLITTING OVER TITANIUM ALUMINIUM CARBIDE ASSISTED RUTHENIUM WITH GRAPHITIC CARBON NITRIDE FOR HYDROGEN PRODUCTION”.

Day 190 Task – Reviewed Multiple Manuscripts for Conferences and Journals

  2. Fuel Journal – 1 manuscript
  3. ICOST2020 Conference – 1 manuscript
  4. RCEE2020 Conference -3 manuscript (I’m a PC member)

Plant Design Project (PDP) Discussion via Whatsapp Text and Audio

We just have to make full use of what we have and what we can do during this trying time. Hence, for the PDP discussion, I kept on discussing and get updates from my team via Whatsapp. For today, I started to evaluate their Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (CTPS) Skills, which I conducted using Whatsapp. Only if I have further questions, I will asked by making video whatsapp calls or Zoom session. I still have 3 more students to check on their CTPS work, Plant Description and Innovation.

Day 58 Task – Facilitator for Scholarly Writing Education Engineering Research Workshop

6 Reasons you (as an engineering educator) should write scholarly papers in Engineering Education:

1. Critical reflection of own practice.
2. Improve practice through reading, reflecting and reviewer feedback.
3. Document and disseminate practice.
4. Inspire others toward innovative practice.
5. Enhance knowledge and spark new ideas.
6. Establish expertise.

Points above were highlighted by the Director of Center for Engineering Education (CEE) during the workshop today. It is indeed very true. I felt and experience it. I reflected and continuously improved my teaching techniques.

… and if you keep on consistently writing scholarly engineering education papers, publish them, together with your team, you will get more…more…and more…

It will be very rewarding. You will be killing 5 or more birds with one stone. Think about it 😉

Day 39 Task – Reviewing Manuscript for BCREC Journal

I spent some time to review a manuscript assigned to me by editor from Bulletin of Chemical Reaction and Catalysis (BCREC). The review was my 15th review since I started reviewing manuscript under BCREC few years ago. It is a very interesting and amazing experience since I can read other researcher’s idea in research, especially in the same research niche as myself.

One day, perhaps somewhere this year, I intend to submit a paper in this journal myself. InsyaAllah. And one day, I hope I can be an editor for this journal.

New Paper Published for 2020 in CET – Development of Sulphonated Sago Pith Waste Catalyst for Esterification of Palm Fatty Acid Distillate to Methyl Ester

Alhamdulillah, this paper has been published in Chemical Engineering Transaction Journal (CET) 2020. This is the work performed by my Master Student, Zarifah Zailan. InsyaAllah she will submit her thesis somewhere in April 2020. Pray for her.

Congrats Dr. Shafiqah Yahya for Successfully Defending Your PhD

Congrats Dr. Shafiqah Yahya for Successfully Defending Your PhD in the VIVA session earlier. I am the co-supervisor for Shafiqah and I am proud of her achievement. She is also my first PhD student that I co-supervised. All the best in your future!

First Stage Proposal MKKK of my student

After the PDP briefing and before the TDRS presentation, I squeezed my time to be in the first stage session of my MKKK mixed mode student, Abdul Salam from Libya. We need to sit down together to improve the research project.
