2021 Day 203 Task – Southern Journal of Engineering Education Symposium

The South African Society for Engineering Education (SASEE) is pleased to announce their upcoming symposium celebrating the launch of the Southern Journal of Engineering Education.

The Southern Journal of Engineering Education (SJEE) is a scholarly forum for the publication of original research that is relevant to the international engineering education community. The journal is ‘southern’ in that it values critical perspectives on the unique challenges facing engineering education in South Africa and the Global South. The SJEE is an open-access publication that promotes the development of high-quality scholarship through a supportive peer-review process. (About www.sjee.org.za)

Other highlighted Tasks of the Day:

  • Completed review of Journal of Water Processing Engineering
  • Manage AJEE
  • Worked on ECE Paper Draft
  • Reviewed RCEE Extended Abstract

2021 Day 202 Task – Active and Cooperative Learning Workshop Preparation Meeting

We’ll be handling 2 more workshops in this coming weeks. The workshops are Active Learning Workshop @ 26-28 July for UNS and also Cooperative Learning Workshop @ 3-4 August.

2021 Day 201 Task – External Evaluation for Universiti Malaya Academic Staff

I received an email yesterday and was invited to be an external assessor for Cluster Assessor for 2021 Staff Performance Management system (SPMS) stakeholder.

2021 Day 200 Task – Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha & Long Discussion with Master Student

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha Maaf Zahir Batin. Today no official activity from the morning up to 4 pm. After 4pm it was a serious lengthy discussion with Riduan until 10pm plus.

2021 Day 197 Task – CEE Consortium Research Progress Meeting

It’s Saturday and today I woke up early to complete few pending tasks. But most importantly we have a CEE Consortium Research progress meeting at 9am to discuss how the code and cook book is progressing. I am honestly very new to this and I am still learning, even though we had numerous meetings on this such as here and here. I also felt confused and dizzy with all the deep level comprehension on this discussion. Chin was the key player, key researcher in this consortium project, also acting as the phd student for this research. I hope he too can fully understand all of this faster, because he is just like me, coming from engineering discipline and suddenly venturing into a new area.

But it is ok, I’ll keep on learning. All of this is indeed far from the technical chemical engineering cognitive that I was formally trained before.

Other highlighted tasks of the day:

  • Submitting MKKL Viva marks to Coordinator
  • Checked Thesis Absi
  • Checked Proposal Nazirul
  • Checked ECE Paper
  • Checked ECM Paper
  • To Review a Chapter for Unimap Book Chapter
  • HTGYE tasks

2021 Day 196 Task – Complete Marking Refinery & Petrochemical Tech Course and Updated it in AIMS

Today is a Friday and an off day. I am grateful because I felt fine and healthy despite of the Pfizer injection that I obtained yesterday afternoon. Hence, I woke up early to complete checking the markings, analyze it and update all the marks in AIMS system. I then released the marks for students to view it so that if there is anything that they want to ask or check, then I can help re-check the marks.

After doing that, I checked the status of all ICLCA Chemical Engineering Transaction (CET) papers that my students have submitted. Then I communicated and discussed with relevant students, guide them on how to make improvements based on reviewers comment. I did communicated with Mei Lian, Wan Ting, Farra and also Shams (for MATPR Biodiesel paper).

At night, I had a Mock Presentation session with Azri from Lotte, my PSM Space student. The session was smooth and I gave all important comments to improve Azri’s presentation slide. In Syaa Allah Azri will do fine.

Other highlighted tasks of the day:

  • Discussed with Hafiz, PSM Space student about his work. He is working from Offshore.
  • Watched Theory of Everything movie… (this is not my official activities, but I took a break watching a biography movie of Steven Hawking)

2021 Day 194 Task – Engagement with Vice Chancellor

This is fresh. New temporary concept since we were recently deeply emotionally involved in the soccer mania through the Copa de America and also Euro 2021 campaign.

2021 Day 193 Task – Final Exam Refinery and Petrochemical Technology

Today is the final examination day for this subject – Refinery and Petrochemical Technology, that I taught. This is the first time we had to do an online final examination and also a new format for me.
New format means we release Q1, Q2, Q3 and so on in specific times. It began with the release of Q1 and student will answer the question. After 30 minutes, student will have to submit the answer to e-learning. Then Question 2 will be released via e-Learning again, then student will take 40 minutes to answer, then upload it to e-learning.

I found it cool as well as I can immediately mark Q1 while students were answering Q2. As a result I can swiftly start marking the papers via eLearning.

2021 Day 192 Task – Learned to Set Up eLearning for Final Exam

In order to ensure a more secure final exam, I decided to adjust final exam so that students will do Q1 first, followed by Q2, then Q3 and finally Q4. However, it require me to learn the setting up of elearning. I have to play around and created few assignments in elearning and tried the restriction functions. To make long story short, I managed to set up the final exam in a new way, one by one questions will be released when students take the final exam. I’m grateful to my other half who helped me with the set up of my elearning.

2021 Day 191 Task – Exploring and Working on EasyChair Platform as the Chair

Before this, I only used Easychair as an author who submit his paper and uploading his revised version. However, for RCEE2021, I am the Program Director and as mentioned before I am also the Chair for our RCEE2021 Easychair platform. As good as it sound, I am not well verse about Easychair’s most powerful function/role which is the Chair.

Today, I explored a bit and sent an email to all authors to announce something. It worked from my side. I hope it also work on the author’s side, meaning they receive the email from us.

Other tasks highlighted for the day:

  • Review Energy Manuscript
  • Review Draft ECE
  • Agenda for RCEE2021 Meeting prepared
  • Refinery solutions and carry marks updated
  • CET Corrections
