Day 135 Task – The Big Engineering Education Research Meet Up

This is the first time I participated in a huge global Engineering Education meeting and more than 110 researchers associated to Engineering Education Research (EER) were here. There were several Keynote Talk that were staggered in 3 sessions on the 14th May 2020. The first session which was as early as 7am (Malaysia time) was presented by CEE Research Fellow, Dr. Nor Farawahidah Abdul Rahman. Her presentation was very interesting and can be viewed in this youtube link. The second Keynote Talk was from Dr. Kerrie Douglas from Purdue University, USA. The second session was at 6pm (Malaysia time)while the 3rd session was at 11pm (Malaysia time).
Overall, it was such an amazing session where the EER community gathered, exchange ideas and supported each others contribution. Bravo.

Day 134 Task – Not Much Progress Today

Unfortunately, unlike the other days, today is not a really productive day for me. There was this saying, “too much of something is bad enough…”. I felt that. Working too much, a lot, staring and facing the laptop kind of impacted me negatively. Hence today, I took a brief break, trying to rejuvenate and charge my power. Tomorow will be a massive day. Several staggered online meeting with EER people around the world and a plant design project seminar taking place on the afternoon.

Day 133 Task – Managing AJEE Journal Again

Today, I received 3 draft manuscript for AJEE journal. 2 of them were new manuscript while 1 was a correction version from an author out of Malaysia. Looking at this positive progress, it is very interesting that if God Will, InsyaAllah, we can have AJEE Volume 4, Issue 1, published in June. I’m glad and quite relieved with this situation.

Day 132 Task – Working on My Students Review Journal Papers

The was heavily invested and spent for my master and phd student’s review paper. I checked the Turnitin for duplication score and it was not that encouraging. Hence, few adjustment need to be made and I asked my students to take action to improve the plagiarism score. It was not that serious but in order for it to be submitted to reputable journals, we should just take care of this.
But here’s a tip… Don’t be shocked if the duplicate score is so high. You can exclude the bibliography / references part and that massively reduced the duplicate score. I did that and it worked, as shown in the image above.

Day 131 Task – BICARA ALUMNI: SECURED SOFTWARE: IS IT IMPORTANT TO US?

After having a morning MKKK1653 class earlier this morning, I joined this online Bicara Alumni session organized by UTM Alumni titled “BICARA ALUMNI: SECURED SOFTWARE: IS IT IMPORTANT TO US?”. The speaker is non other than the expert in UTM, Dr. Syed Zainudeen Bin Mohd Shaid. He has appeared in Astro Awani and numerous other national interview broadcast session. I have also personally invited him in 2018 to give a talk about scamming to my Surau after we experienced many unfortunate incidents. He has the knowledge and expertise. We learned the various attack to user, application (front end), network, Application (back end), operating system and hardware.

Day 130 Task – Reviewing Manuscript from Energy Journal

I took the opportunity today to take spent sometime to sit down and tentatively read the manuscript that was sent to me few days ago. The research was very interesting, which is something almost similar to what I am doing. I am not going to comment the detail on the manuscript, but I just want to share that I learned many interesting points and research technique from this manuscript. I hope it will trigger me to be more creative and innovative when writing future journal paper.

Day 129 Task – Cyan Meeting – My Plant Design Project Team Meeting

We have to get used to the new norm. This is the new situation since Covid19 hit us terribly. All meetings must be performed online, virtually including this small Plant Design Project meeting with my students. After about 2 or 3 weeks not having a meeting, we get back together to discuss on various stuffs, which include sizing, costing, waste, recovery etc. The meeting was good and I believed the students benefited. However, there are still few information that need to be searched for and confirmed. That’s fine though. The most important thing is my students are working smart, hard and happy. All the best guys!
