A Surprise Visit …

Today, we were lucky to host Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Didi Dwi Anggoro, my colleague from Universiti Diponogoro (UNDIP), Semarang, Indonesia (and his family). He was in Johor since yesterday for his daughter’s convocation in Marsah, Johor Bahru. It’s not his (and his family) first visit to our humble house. They have been here in several occasions for the past few years.

Who is Didi Dwi Anggoro?

He is a very nice friendly guy whom which when I was doing my Chemical Engineering Masters Degree, he did his Ph.D. We were in the same research group – Chemical Reaction Engineering Group (CREG). We were both supervised by Dr. Nor Aishah Saidina Amin (Now Prof. Nor Aishah Saidina Amin @ Prof NASA). That era which we were in was betweeen 1999 – 2003. His research areas are applied catalysis, reaction engineering and biofuel.

3rd Game – UTM Inter-Deparment Badminton

We just played our 3rd game tonight, which is the first in this knock-out stage. This time we battled Faculty of Science. Surprisingly, I was asked to play single. Hesitated, I obliged with the decision by our team leader / manager (Prof. G). The game started.

If you just read this post, you should read 2 earlier post here and here, to know the complete overview of our game.

Result:

(1) 1st double (PM Dr. Asnizam & Ahmad MPRC) – we LOST unfortunately.

(2) Single (ME) – surprisingly I won (YES)! I was lucky I guessed 🙂 God helped me! And it was a straight set. My opponent was exhausted and slightly heavier than me. That’s some advantage for me.

(3) 2nd double (Prof G. & Roslan Jas) – the decider – again, we lost unfortunately.

OVERALL – We LOST and will not proceed to the quarter final tomorrow.

Well, it’s ok. It’s just a nice game. I treated it as an activity for me to exercise (but during the game, it can turned out to be very tense!)

InsyaAllah, we’ll try next year 🙂

Go FCEE!

UTM Inter Departmental Soccer Tournament

This is surprisingly my 1st soccer game in a space of 4 years. Previously I played for the faculty, but since I experienced some pain in my knees (in 2012), I have to relaxed and considered stop playing. But, yesterday…haha… it was a comeback. I anticipated to play for 10 minutes, but it ended I played for 45 minutes. Need to work on my stamina.

My Google Scholar Stat Info (20th July 2016)

Every academicians / researchers in a university all over the world will have their own Google Scholar Account by this era. I’m included. Like other comrades, I am striving hard to contribute as much as I can to the scientific community, especially those that dwell within the regions of Chemical Engineering. My Google Scholar stat info as per shown below (If you are interested to see, just click the image below to enlarge it). This is for my personal record to see, to assess, to evaluate, to reflect later in future, how I am performing as an academician / researcher. For record, I uploaded Figure 1 and Figure 2.

My 2 cents

As a new lecturer it is not easy to straight away jump and show colourful glaring Google Scholar Stat.  There are so much to do such as prepare/write/submit research proposal to get research grants, get some students (good students), supervise and monitor research, write and publish in reputable journal, participate in conferences, perhaps write 1 or 2 book chapters etc. The impact of all this hardwork will only be materialize in the next few years. Well, I just completed my Ph.D in 2013 , struggled to secure some research grants in 2014 and managed to have some good students in 2015. So, now is the time to work smart and hard. I hope my Google Scholar stats will be more decorative in the coming 2017. InsyaAllah

The awesome and great Dr. Wan Rosli. This guy is really intelligent, beyond what we can imagine a typical engineering lecturer could be.

(Course Assessment Report) CAR Sample Data Training Meeting – for 1st year

Details:

Date/day : 20th Jan 2016/Wednesday

Venue : BMF

Time : 10am-12am

My 2 cents:

OBE ~ CRR system recording, reporting is crucial for our Chemical Engineering Faculty as well as other faculties in UTM. Having an effective user friendly system is essential. Dr. Wan Rosli has created from scratch a really brilliant system to be used to record, input, assess marks and analyse the CO and PO mapping, as well as continuous improvement effort. I believed the features are not limited to just that, there are more. I have tried it today and successfully created the CRR report cor my 1st year Introduction to Engineering subject.

While using the system, I practically tested it and suggested one point to Dr. Wan Rosli so he can improve it. No need to mention here. Let’s just hope, the improvement can be made and our task every end semester can be speed up 🙂

Bravo Dr. Wan Rosli. UTM should adopt this system. I am a proud user of it.
