A 100% Clean Energy Grid is Completely Doable

We need fewer politicians and more scientists in our political system to make it doable.

Senator Heinrich: A 100% Clean Energy Grid Is ‘Completely Doable’

Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich is the son of a utility lineman, and one of just a few engineers in Congress.

Clean energy piqued the New Mexico lawmaker’s interest at an early age, while he was building and racing solar-powered cars in college. But for most of his life, he says, it was hard to imagine a world in which renewables could power more than 20 or 30 percent of the electric grid.

Today, Heinrich’s outlook is different. “We can have a future reliable, cheap, resilient grid that is 100 percent powered by clean energy,” he said in an interview on Greentech Media’s Political Climate podcast.

The right to disconnect: The new laws banning after-hours work emails

We should not tolerate excessive demands from our employers. If an e-mail is responded to after work hours, those 10 minutes should count as work and be paid for on top of the salary. Work is work.

The right to disconnect: The new laws banning after-hours work emails

A new study has found you may be suffering from excessive stress and anxiety about work expectations even if you don’t actively check work emails in your off-hours. The mere expectation of being in contact 24/7 is enough to increase strain for employees and their families, the new research suggests. In today’s ultra-connected world, with many people often getting work emails sent to their smartphones, a growing number of countries and companies are endorsing “right to disconnect” laws, recreating a much-needed boundary between work and home.

Disappear for a while

If you want something you have to make sacrifices. One of those is free time and social life.

The Earth System is approaching a planetary threshold that, if crossed, could prevent stabilization of the climate

We need to advance renewable energies now so that we won’t need fossil fuel anymore.

Trajectories of the Earth System in the Anthropocene

Our analysis suggests that the Earth System may be approaching a planetary threshold that could lock in a continuing rapid pathway toward much hotter conditions—Hothouse Earth.

Humanity is now facing the need for critical decisions and actions that could influence our future for centuries, if not millennia.
