Day 167 Task – Editing and Preparing Paper for ICOST2020 Conference

Initially I thought this is an easy task as my student has prepared this paper. Unfortunately, it is a mountain of task as the turnitin score is 56% and I need to reduce it to 15 or below. I attempted to edit it yesterday night, which took me almost 3 hours and it was just reduced to 36%.

This morning, my strategy is to add more content to the paper and also edit it (rewrite) some of it so that the turnitin plagiarism score can be reduced to below 15%. Wish me luck. Thanks.

Day 166a Task – Mock Presentation for Cyan – My PDP group

Tomorrow will the the Final Presentation day for my PDP Student – Cyan Team. As their SV, I need to check their presentation via an online mock presentation conducted through Webex. They successfully managed to present but off course there were still plenty of room for improvements. I gave my sincere comments based on my knowledge and experiences as an engineer. I hope they can make improvement and present gratefully and smoothly tomorrow. InsyaAllah.

Day 166 Task – Test MKKK1653 Safety and Health in Chemical Plant

Today in the morning, I conducted Test 1 for my Master Safety Class MKKK1653. There are no other option than to handle to test on an online mode. I uploaded the question 10 minutes before the test commences which was at 8.30am and gave the students 2 hours to complete the test. At 10.30am, the students submitted their answer script one by one via eLearning submission link.

Day 165 Task – Miscellaneous AJEE, PDP, GSA, iCOST2020 Paper & Keyed in Marks Tasks

Today is a beautiful Saturday. Fortunately I am still OK to do some work. As the above titled mentioned, I did quite some express work. There was quite a number of follow up and formatting work for AJEE that need to be settled. On top of that, for Plant Design Project (PDP), i need to keep track of SV who have submitted the entrepreneurship marks and key-in the marks for students. I then need to send a follow up telegram message to all SV to remind them to submit the  entrepreneurship marks (for those who haven’t done so, off course).

I also received reminder from ICost2020 secretariat to submit full paper. I have earlier submitted an abstract via easychair and the abstract was accepted. The paper has already been prepared by my PSM student but I need to changed it to the required format and later to do the Turnitin plagiarism check. To my surprise, the plagiarism score is quite high and need to be lowered down. Well that’s a task for tomorrow and Monday.

Day 164 Task – Checking Master Students Project Proposal

Several students of mine have submitted their proposal, draft and reports. Today, I allocated some time to check some of the proposal and report drafts. One of the interesting report is about my Master Safety and Health student who performed a research on the health quality of mariners. It is a topic which I have never ever imagined but through her work, I learned a lot and discovered the problems that seafarers and mariners faced. Imagine if you a seafarers and work in the middle of the ocean for 6 months. Suddenly you got very sick and need medication attention. How, where and when you will be treated? Where is the nearest hospital in the middle of Pacific Ocean?

Think about that…

Day 159 Task – Academic Advisor in Action

Besides those clearly visible task as a lecturer, we also have to perform our task as Academic Advisor for the students under us. There are numerous issues for the coming pre-registration course subject because the future could be uncertain due to Covid-19. My coming students will have to officially register labs for next session, but then we heard that classes will be conducted online, from home.

There are also several other issues that I need to help such as student could not pre-register due to their fee have not been paid, or they have paid but not reflected that they have paid. There are also situation where some students want to take foreign language course, but it exceeds the allowable 18 credit hours. All of these issues need to be addressed and assisted.
