The Train to Busan

Have you watched The Train to Busan? I will not consider it as the best thriller genre movie, BUT, the messages it entails are superb.  Here are a few that I could list

  • A busy selfish father who ignores his own daughter but turns into a new leaf after it was pointed by his daughter.

  • A tough gangster who has a loving heart.  He is so gentle to his wife despite his aggressivenes towards others.

  • A liitle girl who is kind hearted and very observant.

  • Another selfish officer and without whom, more lives could be saved.

  • A careless train master who did not notice that the infected lady managed to be on board. This is the root to the problem.
  • A responsible train pilot who could sacrifice his own life to help others.
  • Corrupted government who lied to the people.

Kill Em with Kindness

The feeling of anger made me sighed in anguish.  I really hate of being furious and I normally choose to burst it out.  BUT, what should I do, go killing people??? Alhamdulillah my daughter, Neeno, said to  me ‘you kill em with kindness’. I found myself astonished and yeah … why not kill them with kindness.  And here I go downloading this beautiful song by Selena Gomez.

“Kill Em With Kindness”
by Selena Gomez

The world can be a nasty place
You know it, I know it, yeah
We don’t have to fall from grace
Put down the weapons you fight withAnd kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em, kill ’em, kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead now

We’re running out of time
Chasing the lies
Every day a small piece of you dies
Always somebody
You’re willing to fight, to be right

Your lies are bullets
Your mouth’s a gun
And no war in anger
Was ever won
Put out the fire before igniting
Next time you’re fighting

Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em, kill ’em, kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead now

Go ahead, go ahead now
Go ahead, go ahead now

Your lies are bullets
Your mouth’s a gun
And no war in anger
Was ever won
Put out the fire before igniting
Next time you’re fighting

Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em, kill ’em, kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Kill ’em with kindness
Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead now

Go ahead, go ahead now
Go ahead, go ahead now
Go ahead, go ahead now

Eid Mubarak

Hope it is not to late to wish all Muslims Eid Mubarak.  In Malay it is called Hari Raya Aidil Adha, Hari Raya Haji or Hari Raya Qurban.  The name of Hari Raya Haji is given in conjunction with the Pilgrimage season and for the meaning of Hari Raya Qurban, kindly read the following text taken from the Human Appeal Australia Website.

Qurban

The word udhiyah means an animal of the ‘an’aam class (i.e., camel, cow, sheep or goat) that is slaughtered during the days of Eid al-Adha because of the Eid and as an act of worship, intending to draw closer to Allaah thereby.

This is one of the rituals of Islam prescribed in the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and according to the consensus of the Muslims.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only)” [al-Kawthar 108:2]

It was narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari (5558) and Saheeh Muslim (1966) that Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sacrificed two white rams speckled with black. He slaughtered them with his own hand, said ‘Allaahu akbar’ and put his foot on their necks.”

It was narrated from al-Baraa’ ibn ‘Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever offers a sacrifice after the prayer has completed his rituals (of Eid) and has followed the way of the Muslims.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5545.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) offered sacrifices, as did his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them).

Comparing argumentative and problem solution text genres – ULAB 2122

On 14 September 2016, we had group presentations on the comparison of argumentative and problem solution genres.  5 out of 8 groups presented their findings of the analysis done on two types of text.  We will continue with the presentations in the next class on Wednesday (21 Sept) and I will wrap up the points highlighted by all the groups. Insya Allah.
