Syukur Saya Anak Malaysia ❤️🇲🇾

Pada 30 Ogos saya ambil cuti, pergi settle semua hutang2 dgn kerajaan. Minta hubby drive me around, dah lama x jadi mem besar 💁🏻‍♀️. Destinasi 1: JPJ. Hmmm ada saman lama belum bayar 🤭. Chuak juga, brp lah nak kena. Pegawai JPJ tanya ‘dekat TBS pun boleh kena saman ka Puan’, sambil tersenyum sipu (pegawai tu x nampak la sebab pakai 😷 kan) terus jawab ‘cari jalan keluar x jumpa terus masuk tempat bas, apalagi kenalah saman’. Sampai kat kaunter nak bayar saman ‘RM90 Puan’. Alhamdullilah ada diskaun Hari Kebangsaan 🇲🇾. Terima kasih JPJ 😍.
Destinasi 2: Pejabat Tanah Johor Bahru. Aduuuh brp la nak kena bayar, rasa2 sejak 1998 x pernah bayar. Nasib baik Dr Mahani Stapa ingatkan, ‘kena bayarlah nita, rumah u bukannya buat atas angin’, hmmm kawan yg prihatin 🤨. Masa staf PTJ nak bg bil ‘RM227 Puan’. Aik murahnya. Bila tengok bil rupanya cukai tertunggak dr 2016, denda lewat x cecah pun RM40. Mmg mampu sgt insya Allah. Terima kasih PTJ, kos yg amat berpatutan 😍.
Rasa sgt2 bersyukur hari ni tinggal di bumi Malaysia. ‘Maka nikmat Tuhanmu yang manakah yang kamu dustakan’ (Surah Ar-Rahman).

Being a mother and supervisor.

Apparently, a mother and supervisor share one most crucial role that is being a sorter. As a mother, we have to sort dirty clothes which our kids dump in a big laundry basket. Upon washing, the mother has so sort school uniforms, office shirts, towels, bedsheet, pillow cases, outdoor attires, coloured, whites and the list goes on and on. Mothers wash item by item accordingly.

Similarly, as a supervisor, we have to do the same. Not to sort dirty clothes BUT information. PhD candidates tend to add all kinds of information in their writing, even though the information is not necessary. There is a big tendency for them to repeat the same information again and again. While reading my PhD student’s drafts (the fourth draft) I got annoyed with the info recurrence and I ended up become a sorter with the aim that the final thesis is readable. Therefore, dear PhD candidates, please help your supervisor by being organised. Organise your study, data, findings and most importantly your thought. Thank you for reading 😊

Kaca Versus Permata

There are 2 great Malay leaders: one is kaca and the other one is permata. Anuar is the great orator whilst Dr. Mahathir  is the great author, you have to listen to what Anuar said, and read what Che Det wrote. Then only you decide who is kaca and who is permata.

I wrote this on my Facebook in 2011. We are now in 2020. Is it still relevant?

In our daily life we might come across two people, who are at loggerheads, let say A and B.  The third party, C, comes in and shows favours towards B. B feels special whilst A feels dissapointed. But, neither A nor B knows the real intention of C. Without realising B  has become the prey to the cunning C.  The Malay idiom for this is ‘keluar mulut buaya masuk mulut naga’, which has the same meaning with ‘out of the frying pan into the fire’.  By which A is the buaya 🐊 or frying pan 🍳 and C is the naga 🐉 or fire 🔥.

If you were A and could see the real C, would you tell B of the C’s evil intention or would you just keep it to yourself 🤫?

Kaizen and Peribahasa Melayu (Malay Proverb)

I mentioned about Kaizen in my previous post, of which Kaizen is the Japanese method for transforming habits one small step at a time.  Through the Kaizen concept, Japanese are encouraged to formulate their own goals and work towards achieving the goals at their own pace.  Mr Masaaki Imai states that

‘The Kaizen philosophy assumes that our way of life – be it our working life, our social life, or our home life – deserves to be constantly improved’.

I would like to relate this concept of Kaizen to a Malay proverb, which is belakang parang kalau diasah pasti akan tajam, which means  even the back of a machete can be sharp if we keep on sharpen it.  Like Kaizen, the  message of the proverb is we can achieve our goal, no matter how impossible we think it is,  if we work on it bit by bit.

This quote is good to hold on whenever we have a lot of things to do simultaneously.  Most academicians now live by the day and it is crucai for them to practise multitasking.  To keep on living, we get things done based on priorities and our priorities are based on deadlines.

Rupanya banyak peribahasa Melayu tentang katak:
1. Katak di bawah tempurung – biasa dengarkan – orang yg sedikit pengetahuannya
2. Katak ditimpa kemarau – keluh kesah tanpa keruan
3. Laksana katak dihurung ular – lari bercempera ketakutan
4. Seperti katak, sedikit hujan banyak main – suka memperbesarkan perkara kecil
5. Takkan katak beranakkan ular – orang pengecut takkan jadi berani
6. Alim bagai katak di tepi air – orang berilmu tp dia sendiri tidak mendapat faedah drp ilmunya
7. Katak hendak menjadi lembu – meniru gaya orang berada/besar
8. Terkilap-kilap bagai katak disemburi – orang yg diam sahaja dalam suatu perbincangan
9. Tidak akan licin katak puru, jika sentiasa hujan sekali pun – orang yg hodoh takkan cantik walaupun memakai perhiasan

10. Bagaimana hari tak hujan, katak betung dlm telaga berteriak selalu – orang yg selalu ke rumah seseorang dengan tidak beretika dan dgn maksud tersembunyi akan menimbulkan syak wasangka
